| I've noticed this especially with Clannad and Spice and Wolf, and in a couple other anime as well that i can't think of off the the top of my head. Now don't get me wrong i love both of these series dearly (probably why these problems bother me in the first place) and i can understand why this topic is debatable in spice and wolf, but i find it ridiculous that there wasn't one in clannad. I was just wondering why the producers or whoever makes these type of calls decide to do this. Is it something that has to do with the anime industry. Or maybe it's something that has to with Japanese views on relationships (i know that the Japanese believe privacy to be very important when it comes to intimacy) |
| It's Japanese's views on relationship. Unlike in the west, Kissing is seen as a huge thing. I think someone told me that public kissing equate to a form of oral sex? I laughed when he told me that, but I know it's hugely embarrasing. |

| Japanese sexual etiquette is a walking paradox public kissing is a no no but fan service panty shot's of loli's tripping on a public street are acceptable haha. But i feel that japanese culture is not a strong enough argument, you see plenty of anime with kissing scenes. on top of that, if said couple are to kiss in a private setting i don't understand how that would conflict with Japanese ideals. |

| They kiss in spice and wolf, in season 2 anyways, but it's fucking terrible and can easily be missed. Probably the most limp wristed kiss in anime ever. Kisses in Romance anime are pretty unsatisfying in general, they always feel souless and lack any sort of passion. Kinda like the kiss you give your grandmother or some thing. |

| Kissing in anime doesn't happen much for the same reason kissing in TV shows rarely happens. When the characters/actors are kissing they aren't talking or moving the plot. For a romance heavy series a kiss is meaningful thing that doesn't happen just because it can but because the anticipation for it has been created. |

| I've never really thought about it or noticed it. In Clannad I thought the love between the characters was well shown, but in Shakugan no Shana for example, I found myself wanting Shana to express her love to Yuji, and I think that's what the producers want, just like in Spice and Wolf where you are wanting it to happen so you continue on, and it makes space for more series. |
| Spice and Wolf is easier to explain why. You see Spice and Wolf is a light novel series and it has 17 volumes! Season 1 and 2 of the anime only cover 4 of the 17 books! So of course their isn't much kissing or anything going on yet it's still way to early in the story. However, their will be more (If the damn guys will make a season 3) intimacy as it goes on. Now that they are a bit more open with each other with the ending finally having Lawrence reveal his feelings and what-not in season 2 it should progress fairly well. After all they still have a lot to go off of with all the volumes! Now they just need to continue the series. (and I hope they do...) As for Clannad it's a bit tougher to explain because it was based off of a visual novel. Now they could have added in more yes but they just probably found it un-necessary. Since after all in the game theirs really not much kissing going on or anything. They could have added more but it's their decision not ours. D: |

| I wanted to see Yukito and Misuzu kiss in the Air TV series, but unfortunately that didn't happen, at least the movie made up for it by having a kissing scene between Yukito and Misuzu. |
| Kissing is too heavy for most anime in Japan, look at the CERO descriptors on games, there's a descriptor for Love as it's like a BAD thing for youth to know about. |

| Because the producers or whoever want fans to keep coming back to see if the characters will kiss or not. For example: if the series had 26 episodes, but the characters kissed on the thirteenth, nobody will need or want to watch it anymore because what they wanted to happen already did, and there's no suspense anymore, unless the show ends up pulling a School days. |

Take America for example, although it is becoming more progressive, homosexuality is still seen as "taboo" or inappropriate by many americans, yet homosexuality is starting to play a significant part in our media as gay's are in many highly popular tv shows, movies etc. and the fact that they thrive in our media even though homosexuality is shunned is proof enough that it doesn't matter what the popular cultural mannerisms are. |

I understand your point of view and i believe you are partially right. I also understand that obviously the main consumer are the Japanese, but anime is watched all over the world, and i believe that in time the number of anime fans across the globe will increase enough to the point where it influences the anime industry to start including consumers of other countries when they start to come up with new shows. However i don't know if this is going to be a good thing or a bad thing, there are pro's and cons on each side of the argument. Im not trying to compare America with Japan i was using america as a metaphor to show that some cultural beliefs don't have to restrict you when creating a story. | this trend is most bizarre in Clannad Afterstory... they could have at least kissed on-screen for crying out loud... at least in Kara no Kyoukai I can forgive it since Shiki does not relate to normal emotions in the conventional sense. i think we can call her and Mikiya a 'special case'. |
