Higurashi no naku koro ni > prepare to get your mind f**ked pretty hard to make sense of until season2
Kimi ni Todoke > One of the best romance serie I've seen so far with Toradora!
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - Watched a few eps online found it hilarious. Bought the funimation bluray and found it so-so. Up to the sub team you get I guess.
And if the animes are as good as the manga D.Gray-man

@zenicka - try any of these

Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? - try to watch episode 1 > this is hilarious :D (comedy/romance?)

Usagi Drop - If you want to watch about a person raising a child try this one :) Rin is so cute >.< and the story is 9/10 (Slice of life )

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni! - Since you already finish the season 1 why not proceed in season 2 :) you will not regtret it...(Comedy/Romance)

Ano Natsu de Matteru -- decent story, good romance, and likable characters

Ga-Rei: Zero -- a lot of violence, gore, and some shoujo-ai moments

Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi -- even more violence and gore and also more explicit yuri scenes

Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse -- if you don't like to see cute girls being slaughtered then the first two episodes might put you off. Overall, it has nice mechs, nice action scenes, enjoyable story and likable characters

Sword Art Online -- not quite a great anime despite all the hypes, but still enjoyable to watch. I don't like Kirito though

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia -- good visuals, nice story, and overall a decent mystery-slice of life anime. There are some scary moments too.
....of all the arts, for us the cinema is the most important.

Heatguy J -- really fun story with fun characters and interesting art. Story can get convoluted at times, but it remains consistent. Action is entertaining as hell.

Summer Wars -- charming characters, imaginative visuals, and a great story. Also has some emotional moments.

Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi -- quirky cast, ridiculous plot, and very self-aware about its genre and medium. A fun watch.

Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi -- it's got the quirkiness as the series, but the movie takes itself a lot more seriously. Very long and very visual. If you have 3 hours to kill, get ready for a wild ride.

@KingLear,

Ao no Exorcist has a pretty interesting story and there were some fantastic characters and although it was somewhat typical of a Shounen anime I still found it really enjoyable regardless.

Ghost in the Shell has a complex story that challenges you to consider some philosophical themes but doesn't lack action and the characters are well developed adding to the experience.

Welcome to the N.H.K. has a pretty serious story and makes you consider the aspects of the hikikomori lifestyle, and in doing so makes you look at your own lifestyle. Despite this, it still manages to be humorous at times, and I found the characters to be odd yet relatable.

I haven't seen a lot of them, but there is one:
Kaze no stigma (nothing spectacular, but really enjoyable for some mysterious reason, plus the main character is just amazing, so badass, he's probably turned into one of my fav leads of all time)
