| So, if this film is his autobiography, does that mean he' going to retire after this? Anyway, an autobiographical work should be more interesting to watch than his standard fare. I'm not saying they aren't good (though I found some of his works to be quite a bit better than others), just that this is different from anything he has done before. |

| Jump the shark much Hayao? This announcement seems like it could be enlightening on the surface... Until you realize that on a personal level, Miyazaki is a tree-hugging technophobe who doesn't consider his work anime and pretty much frowns on the rest of the anime industry. That's fine, I guess. Great artists are often eccentric. Just not sure a movie where he gets to feed his own already-massive ego is gonna go over super well... Would rather see a Nausicaa sequel. |

| Seems kind of... egotistical, to me. I mean yeah he's famous and everyone loves the guy for what he's done with Ghibli, but it had to be an anime film of his autobiography? Why not just do Ghibli as a whole? :I I'm still interested, but just from hearing this news I've lost a little respect for the guy. |

| Anyone else doing this would probably confuse the hell out of me, but for Miyazaki, I'm excited. This sounds like an interesting idea and I'm all on board with this. Then again, Miyazaki could make a movie about grass growing and I'd still watch it for his scenery porn. (Some damn beautiful grass growing.) |

If it doesn't, then his last would have been The Castle of Cagliostro (That Lupin III move), and the last using his own characters as opposed to a pre-existing franchise would be Future Boy Conan. Yeah. We are going way back here. I'm pretty sure every Ghibli production (Both Lupin and Conan were made before Ghibli was founded) with a male lead has been directed by Isao Takahata or one of the other Ghibl directors, with the exception of Princess Mononoke. |
