Even if i'm a girl i read a lot of shonen manga and i considered them more exciting than shojo ones(but there are some exception).
When i discovered manga i only read romance manga then, after i read Inuyasha, i begin to like the manga "for boys".

Of course, since its so awesome/epic how everything goes in a shonen rather compared to other genres of manga. It is the most popular and i can't stand other genres so shonen is one of those genres that i read the most.

I haven't got any problem reading shonen. I don't know why a girl will have problems with shonen neither a boy with shojo =S

It depends on the story and your tastes, no your gender.

And actually, my fav genre is seinen and yaoi XD

They're both okay, but I prefer well-done Seinen and Josei manga (still searching for some good ones; the few good ones I've seen I can't remember what they were because I was around eight when I saw them...). Much more realistic and tend to have more emotional impact if done correctly.

I don't like Shojo in general, because most of the characters are catered for fangirls. Very often cliched and I hate the "bad boy" personas. Good shojo manga tends to be fantastic though.

On the other had, shounen usually has a bit more variety, and better action scenes. However, they're more likely to lose depth as the series goes on, and have too many fangirls now; they're really freaking annoying.

I read some shonen, but I prefer seinen. I tend to stay away from josei and shojo for the most part, though there are a few that I like.

I read both shonen and shojo. I prefer shonen because I want to see some good action and less romantic stuff. If they describe love in a more mature way (like they do in Nana), it really works on me.

^agree with this 100%^

But I tend to be more of a shounen ANIME watcher,
than a shounen MANGA reader.
I prefer shoujo manga to shounen manga,
and shounen anime to shoujo anime.

I don't really read too shounenish shounen where they fight 90% of the time and make friends (or rather comrades) in the rest, but I like reading love stories from the point of view of the guy and I will read any story that looks interesting enough.

In my opinion, shounen mangas are way better than shoujo.
When I read shoujo mangas, it feels like I've read the particular title from before even if I haven't.
In shounen, it feels like a different world. I get sucked in it.

Yes, I do read manga even though I'm a girl. But I mostly fancy shoujo manga's. I hate shounen mangas with harem where the girls act all slutty. -.- I love mangas like Bleach, Gintama, Bakuman. :D

There's a manga series I'm reading right now called Arata The Legend. It's from Viz's Shonen Sunday. The creator, Yuu Watase, has been around for awhile in the shojo scene with Fushigi Yugi, Absolute Boyfriend, Ceres, and Alice 19th. I'm a girl that usually doesn't like to read Shonen, but she's one of my favorite manga writers. I believe she did a great job on this manga with the action scenes.

Of course! I read it as much as shoujo and even more. Seinen too. Tough I can't stand those ecchi shonen where every single girl falls in live with the biggest idiot - our main character.

I prefer shoujo, then seinen, josei, BL and then shounen. but GL is still in the last place, but that's because I never saw any good ones. I don't count hentai. that's just shit.

but I will read shounen rom-coms, the one thing that I don't like is super special powers (666 satan, yuyu hakusho...), 2 meters weapons (bleach...), girl's pansy's and bra's ala ecchi (some are good though, but not many. I disliked shin angyo onshi, but that is seinen), sports (eyeshield, meister ...) and stupid romance (well, sometimes it's just stupid. but that counts with shoujo too. stupid romance=bad manga. eg. IO, Kana)

I liked dragonball just because it was nostalgic. and I think it's good...

but other that these with ecchi, weapons, powers and other factors are still good by me. like angel densetsu (matrial arts, but still reliable), karin, azumanga, cheeky angel, GTO, neuro, midori no hibi, school rumble, NHK ....

but I will still read shounen, I even have naruto in plan, once it ends, and one piece. and that one with gods..... but there will be still more other genres in my list :)

I don't particularly watch anime based on demography. What appeals to me the most is generally series that have significant substance, profound ideas, progress, development, that sort of thing (although I do enjoy the inane). Other than that, I enjoy most emotional spectrums, and I think it'd be shallow to claim the adrenaline-packed as "superior" to the heartwarming (or vice-versa), or to limit our scope solely based on that.

I think this is a rational attitude regardless of gender; people who refuse to watch something solely because it's "for" the opposite gender are just depriving themselves.

I think you'd seek different things in both genre. For me, I like shounen mangas more than shoujo ones, but when I feel like getting sappy or love-stricken or fuwaa-fuwaa (or something cheesy, that is), I'd run for shoujo. :)

But somehow, contrary to my saying above about liking shounen more, my two top fave manga is Emma and Banana Fish. Well, Emma is said to be a seinen but still it is counted as shoujo/josei for me. ;)

Some girls have ruined shonen. Case in point Naruto. If not for the fangirls we wouldn't have to deal with that bastard Sasuke all the time. >_>

I dislike Sasuke too, BUT, that's not the fangirls' fault. The mangaka has stated a couple of times that Sasuke is his favourite character. I doubt public opinion influenced it that much.

trolololol, no, Naruto ruined itself without the help of fangirls, and Sasuke was destined to come back no matter how many people hate him.

Honestly, in this day and age, i don't even know why something like a "shouen/shoujo" label exists. The difference between "seinen" and "josei" is even slimmer in many cases. sometimes I can't even believe the things that are labelled as "shounen," as there are so many nowadays that fit the "shoujo" bill, but have made the transformation to "shounen" via ecchi overload.

That being said, most of my favorite shows are "shounen" in name, but I'd say there are a fairly equal number of genres in both shounen and shoujo anime that I avoid.
