Weren't Nodachis and Odachis (I still can't really tell the difference) used in field combat back in those day? Apparently they were used by horsemen due to their length (obviously if its longer, you don't have to stay as close to the enemy and reduce the risk of being cut down by those on foot) and IMHO if you were a tank, and skilled, I reckon these oversized swords would be incredibly dangerous compared to the standard Katana/wakizashi combination/layout. Oh yea, bullet wasters FTW |

| Damn the hidden knife, how did I possibly forget this when I just finished AC:B a couple of weeks ago? I never get tired of using it. It's so damn effective in an already easy-game made of counterkills. Hell even the counterkills for the hidden knife looks more awesome than the sword or the dagger. Poking them like 10 times in 2 seconds is soooo badass. The animation is amazing in almost all forms. Jumping off a roof killing 2 guards at once. Sneaking behind someone and knife them without making a noise. Knife them and pull them in a haystack. One of the reasons sometimes I'm so addicted to AC. |

This man is correct. Nodachis were actually used, to great effect. Even in Europe, large swords were commonplace on the battlefield. The rules and conventions of dueling don't exist in the chaos of armies colliding, so large, powerful weapons with long reach outdid lighter, more wieldly weapons that favored duels. Polearms were also deadly effective, as anyone who's taken a high school history class could tell you. |
