Hello to all like-minded, Horo-addicted people. :]

This thread was created to give you a place for discussing the Manga- and Novel-Version of "Spice and Wolf".

The translated chapters of the Manga can be found here:
http://moob-manga.com/

Regarding the novels:
Translation is still going on as we speak (...or write). Some chapters of Volume 1 and 3 are already done. If you want to continue the story where the anime stopped, start with volume 3! Here is the link:
http://www.baka-tsuki.net/project/index.php?title=Spice#Volume_3

But be aware that it could be the story of a possible second season. So if you want to keep the tenseness, it is probably better to wait. ;)

I haven't stopped by the "clubhouse" in awhile, didn't realize you had thrown this up.

Thanks a bunch though, I'm debating on whether or not I should just jump into the 3rd Novel, or wait a bit.

Hi! Just watched spice and wolf.. And it suddenly became one of my favorite animes, and Horo being my #1 fav character.

I was wondering if volume 1 was already translated.. I want to read it ^^

Okay, thanks for the link.. Anyways, do you think it's convenient to print all chapters and illustrations then hardbound them? Is the link above complete when it comes to the illustrations?

Welcome! Nice to have you here ^^

Well, Im not sure if every original illustration is in the novel translation. But on the other hand the translators seem to take their work very serious!

Its best if you ask them personally. I gave you the link to their forum-discussion by PM!

But I heard the rumor that "Spice and Wolf" is a huge success in Tokyo so far. So a second season should be on the way *keeping fingers crossed*.

I'm tempted to buy volume 4-8 from amazon, and work on translating some of it throughout the school year since I love this story.

How far into the novel is the manga at this point?

Unfortunately the Manga-Translation Website for "Spice and Wolf" seems to be inactive for a while. So I have no idea how far they are right now.

From what I have seen so far, I would say the manga follows the anime pretty much. But some scenes and phrases are different. Maybe they use more from the novel than in the anime version.

Translation on chapter 1 of Volume 4 has been completed!

I guess with the second season the producers want to cover 2 Volumes of the novel again (Volume 3 and 4). So if you want to know what is going to happen and afterwards enjoy the story to come alive, START READING!! .... and discuss your expectations here!

I have to say, from my point of view, the story of Volume 3 alone is enough for 13 episodes. So either they plan this to be a 26 episode season or only Volume 3 will be covered. Hopefully the story will not be "crunched together" in order to be shown in fewer episodes.

Its just a matter of time.
Meanwhile you can enjoy the really great fan-translations at "Baka-Tsuki". :]

My real concern is whether or not Lawrence and Horo can become a couple and the fact that Horo can live a very long life, she might just outlive Lawrence. That why, I just wonder if this story will have a happy ending

Same here. Unfortunately "happy endings" are very rare in anime. Most likely it will be a bittersweet one. Hopefully not a drama ending! o.O
Well, as long as there will be a kiss (and I mean a real one, not just on the cheek), I will be satisfied. ^^

I do really wonder why there is so few happy endings? Trying to teach a mentality that a there is no happy endings in real life? Or sumthing like that...

I dont know, but some people at anime suki mentioned
so it did left a bitter sweet feeling inside of me.
One can always hope I guess :)

Yen Press is releasing volume 1 in English in December of this year. I have yet to actually read the Baka-Tsuki translation, but I was waiting for the second volume before reading. Now that there's a physical version coming out though I'm getting that day 1.

well I've read the first 6 chapters of volume 1 of the manga so far. I think I'll also check out the novels. Well, I know I'll check out the novels. I much prefer novels over manga and even more than anime.

Edit: Well I've read volume 1 of the novels and may read volume 3 next. I'd really would like to read volume 2 first though.

I have an observation about the differences in the versions. It seems to me that the anime's Horo is closer to the novel's Horo than the manga's while the manga's plot is more or less identical to the novel's plot.

I find the novel superior to the manga actually :P

And thankfully as I've observed so far the anime (or at least the new season, I haven't checked the first season) is very faithful to its novel counterpart, unlike some animes. The last (2nd) episode made me too curious so I peeked in, finished to chapter 3, got a bit lazy, read the important parts and arrived at final chapter where I read the full thing as well. I was just being lazy I guess D:

Sidenote: volume 3 is translated from the Chinese version of the book but then again, it's free so I don't really think it's that bad of a deal.
