Most of the worst ones have been mentioned already, but the upcoming anime known as Tiger & Bunny deserves a mention.

Unless those mecha transform into a literal Tiger and Bunny, I really din't see that title making any sense apart from being the mecha names. At least Panty & Stocking had some relevance to the anime itself (they were the weapons for the two main girls who share the title of the anime).

Princess Princess.
Pani Poni Dash!
All those "comedy" animes with names like I My Me! Strawberry Eggs, Strawberry Panic, anything having to do with strawberries and/or random food products.

Oh, and Evangelion has 'Neon Genesis' in front. At least it means something more than just 'Naruto.'

Interesting but Evangelion still uses content from the show as part of the title, which is undoubtedly the most recognizable part.

Naming a show after themes or the main character of that show is not lazy. It is an effective, efficient and simple way to make a title that has a tie-in with the series.

Ambiguous disassociated titles would be the worst way to name shows. People are not looking to be mystified by complex allegory from just reading the title.

If the title does the job of setting down another audacious aspect to further convey the art (rather than just being a fancy title, in this case), such as the case of "Ghost in the Shell" attempting to explore the theme of the 'Ghosts' in our 'Shells,' then it doesn't matter how disassociated it is.

That said, I guess titles associated with items in the show won't necessary be an absolute bad egg if it is able to convey art as grand as GitS' title, but my point was that most examples just seem plain shallow to me (Dragonball's another example). You call it simple. I call it a missed opportunity.

Of course, for something as brainless as Dragonball Z, I could understand why a profound title is not needed.

No mention of “Kuso Miso Technique” (basically “Shit Miso Technique”)?. Ok it is apparently a Hentai (never read it, never will) but even for a Hentai that’s just plain wrong. Though I loved the Yaranaika-Meme that came from it…

Except GitS used the terms ghost and shell at some point in the show and movies, thus tying the together with the show.

Naming specific examples is better than trying use a generalization that says simply names are due to laziness. People in particular artists tend to fall into the pitfall of over complicating their work. Them being able to Keep things simple yet memorable is a feat.

Yes, but you must note the point that the title is a clever emphasis of having metaphoric souls in our fleshy body 'shells.' The terms are used, but in what ways are they used? That makes a whole lot of difference.

Unless you could tell me what clever emphasis Dragonballs brings, of course. Or how about Naruto? This is the show about a boy ninja named Naruto whose name means... what, exactly? Any deep subliminal meanings in them?

That said, I now believe that you could not blame the trade because the trader doesn't know the proper ways of mastering it. You have to simply blame the trader for being retarded. Complications in working with art is simply another tool to make your work greater. You could choose not to use it, but if you have the skill, you could use it to make your work better - and what's wrong with improvement?

Probably the misleading would be Highschool of the Dead (only 1 maybe 2 episodes are in the actual school)

I My Me Strawberry Eggs is one of the most retarded titles I've ever seen.

Princess Tutu is misleading as hell, Arad Senki ~Slap Up Party~ just plain sucks in both title and the first episode. Kiddy Girl-and is just '...what?' inducing.

Amazing Nuts! - Seriously the first time when i read this things were heavily implied..
Pigeon blood- Even for a hentai series the title is so misleading. There were no pigeons at all not even a dead one.
Sensitive Pornograph - Yes it was pornographic.. but the sensitive part of it? I couldn't find it anywhere XD
Strawberry Panic! - Yes the main characters name was Ichigo but she didn't seem to panic throughout the series

call me crazy but I always thought it was called Bleach because of the monsters' (cant remember what their called, I hate that stupid show) Bleached white masks.

Anyway, anime titles that I disliked just because they made me not watch them forever since they sounded stupid.

Code Geass ~ Sounds like a bad secret agent anime or something. Like red alert, sound Code Geass! That combined w/ I heard it was about mecha I thought code geass was just some alarm code to bring out the bots. Boy was I wrong.

Basilisk ~ Always thought a basilisk was a snake. Thought this would be about a snake..lol Perhaps one that could turn you to stone? Where I got this thought I have no idea.

Perfect Blue ~ Thought this one was about the ocean rofl.

Paprika ~ Why would I want to watch a anime about Cooking? Lol.

Bleach is called Bleach because Tito like the album Bleach from Nirvana and he likens bleaching to cleansing souls.

Bleach still made my list of bad titles...

The suffix -ball is not an obvious reason why that title is bad. The immature response to the -ball suffix was even commented on by Goku in the original series. Akira Toriyama was aware of the comedic aspect of having the -ball suffix.

Dragonball was named after an item within that world and follows the principle rule of K.I.S.S.

I certainly agree with a good number of those mentioned in that they seem to have little to do with what is often an excellent show. Pumpkin Scissors is another glowing example. Excellent show! Dumb title. Who on earth would carve a pumpkin with scissors?

Actually the title might be referring to Allen Walker who has Grey (if not silver or white) hair.

Why use the letter D though? Because it's some cool way of saying 'the'? I don't know.

Okay, I get the Tantei and even the Opera part, but why God why Milky Holmes? It became even more disgusting after someone mistyped it as Milky Holes. I lol'd, though. XD

And about Legend of the Legendary Heroes... NEEDS MORE LEGENDARY!
How about The Legendary Legend of the Legendary Heroes of the Legend? Or even The Legendary Legend of the Legendary Legend Heroes of the Legendarily Legendary Legend?

Also, D.Gray-man will always be Dr.Gay-man for me.

I actually have wondered about this, but if I remember correctly, in one of the earlier episodes Allen used a move that was very similar to the title or something of the like. I thought that it'd become some sort of important move, but it only was in that one episode so who knows. xD
