I have a very easy question, but take into account that I watched this anime in the season it was released which means it was a long time ago, so if I'm wrong about my question you can correct me since that's the purpose of the topic.

There are spoilers in what I'm going to write below. I don't recommend reading it if you haven't finished this anime yet. My question is about an event that occurred in the middle of the story. The characters went down the ship somewhere and found a woman frozen in time. They removed the woman from that place and she was confused, but then she managed to reason and explain the situation to the characters. However, explain to me: when they left and approached the planet with the ship, the woman realized that it wasn't planet Earth, but another planet that she didn't know. So how did she understand the characters' language if she wasn't from the same planet as the protagonist and the others?

Could I be missing something crucial to the story at this point? Or should I simply use suspension of disbelief?

I feel like it was explained but it's also been a very long time since I've seen it so I don't remember exactly what it was. lowkey might rewatch now though, or read the manga

@tenten421 yes, I think I will do the same in the next few days, even if someone gives me the explanation here

All of the characters in the story are canonically speaking English. If I remember correctly, on Planet Astra they consolidated all languages into just English.

The cast are descended from people of the other planet the frozen woman comes from (which is Earth) , I would assume the same languages are taught. The girl is obviously Russian while the cast I presume is Japanese, but it's pretty common in animes for characters outside of Japan to know Japanese. I don't really remember all the details since it's been a while, but It's pretty clear that even though they're technically from different planets, the inhabitants of the one planet all are taught a good 95% of the knowledge from Earth.
Additionally, though I lack memory and cannot confirm it: it is acknowledged that the progression of humanity in this anime has gotten rid of a lot of culture separation (mostly after moving to the other planet, but also somewhat on Earth) so they might've collectively taught one specific language to everyone on the side of whatever language is their 1st, which could explain why the frozen lady can speak the same language as the cast. Id have to rewatch it to be sure of that though.

It was explained at the end of the series, that all humanity managed to uttely unite, meaning abolishing religion (somehow) only one language, one nation, etc. Arguably the least realistic part of the series, but that's besides the point.
So, as others pointed out, everyone in this series canonically speaks English. That survivor woman did as well.

the people who live on the new planet are descendents of those living on earth so the language Didn't change just the planet did.

How are American able to understand British people if they don't come from the same continent?

They literally say it in the moment. It’s revealed like right away. It’s been a while but this anime is lowkey still fresh. I don’t wanna spoil it for ya. But they do answer your question in the anime

Otherwise I wasn’t paying attention but I’ve rewatched it.

I could be blending another anime into this but I remember watching it again and it made a point of saying history and human culture had purposely been edited and censored to teach the ”new” earth society a unified or doctored version of what happened to earth/humanity in the past. So meaning the generations born on the new earth are never taught that other languages were a thing and or that old earth had wars and shit and it's all a clean slate (I think there wasnt a full planet population transfer, it was like 20% pop made it to new earth...maybe?) I feel like I'm not helping. sorry!
sooooo, at first Russian lady thinks 'so u kids don't know Gorbachev Castro? mmmkay that's weird but wait wtf but there's no African continent?? that ain't even Earth¿?’... at some point, somebody explains how the generation that remembered the old earth and transplanet-ed died off or didn't want to rehash the past, so the few trying to preserve the truth were dismissed as conspiracy wackos or something...
ok. I 🤔

@lisalosthername
IIRC, the anime had text in English, meaning that they all speak English, which we would expect a soviet cosmonaut to know.

Just finished the anime and Polina casually told them (episode 10) that they are speaking English as of the moment and told them she's from russia then asked them if they know about russia.
