Do you plan to have a New Year's resolution or is it a tradition you don't bother yourself with?

If I want anything done, I don't wait for a new year to begin to set it as my goal or to gather motivation, but maybe it is different for you? Do you follow that tradition, and does it help you to achieve your goals more efficiently? Or do you tend to always miss your goals anyway? If you're still doing it this year, have you already thought up what your New Year's resolution will be for 2025?

I've kind of lost hope on everything so I'll take the new year 2025 one day at a time. I feel like that's the best way to challenge the new year.
There's no resolution or anything planned except wait and see what happens. Sounds gloomy as hell though.

They usually stay empty words, I don't remember any resolution that I put into practice afterwards.

I think it is as good a time as any to reflect on the previous year and use that as a springboard to what you want to do next year, especially so if you have winter break and this times on your hand. For me, I want to read a ton of books on a ton of topics, so my resolution boils down to me prioritizing which books to check out and buy. So basically what I have always done. Maybe plan a trip overseas.

I don't bother with New Years Resolutions. They seem like a waste of effort.

My new years resolution is 4K (I'm done with 1080p resolution).

Please laugh.

Now, my real resolutions for 2025 are:
- don't waste any money on fast food, drinks, ice cream, snacks (I've done the math and I've wasted almost 15% of my yearly paycheck on those things, crazy!)
- starve to lose the 5kg I've gained in past few months
- spend less time browsing cat videos and loli waifus on twatter
- spend less time browsing MAL forums (I don't even like any of you)
- spend less time sitting at PC, buy a nice standing desk for work cuz my back has been complaining lately

Well on this part of the planet is kind of a big thing: the whole circle closes and starts again after new years eve: work, school, etc. So it is a way to get that little push to drop some bad habits or to push for good ones.

Personally, I would like to keep my projects and at least release some homebew/fan made game before 25 ends as a challenge and a goal. Time to stop with all prototyping, testing and stuff that doesnt go anywhere lol.

@Commit_Crime If you gotta pay to get cancer it's probably more efficient to stay in a tanning bed until you get melanoma.

@Soverign

Well I just started a longform project that I hope I can finish. Keeping the specifics on the dl for now but I'm cooking up designs and working out a plot.

I dont do resolutions but one thing I'm gonna do is atleast party on new year's.

My personal motto is: Why wait for tomorrow when you can do that task today? There is no time like the present!

I generally think, it is best to do something sooner rather than later unless there is a good reason to delay. If there is a genuine reason for delaying (that is not simply an excuse for procrastination) then fine. But you should aim to get things done at the earliest opportunity. Because of this feeling I don't believe in new years resolutions. I do believe in resolutions in general though. If you are sick of some aspect of your life it is never a bad time to make a resolution to fix that problem whatever it maybe. If it is important then there is no reason to wait for the new year/month/moon or whatever.

The other thing I would add is not to get too flustered if you hit a road bump when making a journey towards your resolution. Life is not easy and sometimes when we fall we just need to dust ourselves off and try again. Don't think of failure as something that reduces your self-worth, see it as just a setback and nothing more.

I always think about it right near the end of the year, come up with a couple things in my mind, and then fail pretty quickly. Here's hoping this one's different. Even if it is a bit arbitrary, I do like the ability to reflect back on the year and think about it as a bit of a fresh start.

Just the simple one of "No matter ho hard it gets, don't kill yourself". It was rough throughout this year, but I found the light at the end of the tunnel, made it, and that's what matters.

I want to stick with my diet and possibly ace my final exam. I aced the first part of it so that's nice, but in the end only thing that matters is passing. My goal from the summer was also to get my grade average back to 1.5 or an A average basically, right now I stand at 1.6 which counts as a B average. It really doesn't matter anyway, I'm far too lazy to study to memorize EVERYTHING, I haven't gotten anything below 90% the last couple of months and I honestly did not deserve that. I should be less lazy for these final couple of months.

Last year I started with a week of no chocolate, this year I might start with a week of no snacks in general. It's always fun to make the start of a year something memorable.

Definitely no more New Year's resolution for me. I now know all too well that there's always gonna be more problems to show up for me to deal with to even bother with promises and goals and shiznet. If I ever have one, it's simply: DO BETTER THAN THE POOPY ARSE PREVIOUS YEAR!!!

But for the positive people of the world, especially the youngsters, I'd say it's still a helpful idea to have New Year resolutions for some kind of checkpoints and progressions every year.
So, ignore us grumpy ol' whiners and keep your optimism going! Happy New Year, y'all!!! ^_^
