I skipped 1.0 because it is basically a retelling of the anime. Currently watching 2.0 & I heard bad things about 3.0 so I'm just wondering if I can skip this and go to 4.0 since I heard amazing things about it. Also will I be confused if I don't watch 3.0

I feel like 3.0 gives you context for the world state and stuff, so you’ll be confused going straight to 3.0+1.0.

You can skip it if instead you watch all of Hideaki Anno's movies, honestly tho Love & Pop contributes more the the NGE storyline than 3.0

No, not in a million years, it is a fundamentally essential part of the Rebuild saga on every conceivable level

(Also the culture of skipping every installment in a series you think might be bad is dumb as well, but that’s a rant for its own time)
Barely catching my breath!
Lay my eyes on the crest!
Gonna square up to all of the heat that is left!
So I carry the torch! To Inferno! Inferno!

No, how do expect to understand 4 if you completely skip 3. And shame on you for skipping 1.

Also, 3 isn’t bad by any means. It’s just the weakest of the 4.

Op despite what this thread is saying this movie absolutely doesn't have anything happen in it, read the synopsis on wikipedia or some other shit and then watch the last movie and be thankful you didn't spend as much time on this cash grab remake junk. I would honestly even recommend not touching the 4th movie either. Rebuilds before and after 2 are completely different and a lot of things from 2 are never brought up again or are just straight up retconed for the sake of this movie which again ultimately doesn't have anything of note happening in it.

Why did start a series if you're going to skip some parts of it? You should have not skipped even the first rebuild, you never watched it, so how do you know there is nothing important? Just because someone told you it's ok?

Hell no! This is super essential apart from the fact that it teaches us about Kaworu and his affection for humans or more importantly the way in which he finds affection for Shinji, emphasizing that humans are not bad after all, having empathy and even helping Shinji have reasons to continue living, helping him and explaining to him that what happened was not his fault.
For me it is the second best movie after the last one, of course, I feel that the hate for this movie comes from the fact that Shinji finds feelings towards Kaworu and that he shows affection, many hate the affection between two men.

just don't even watch them if you're just trying to skip half the movies. It doesn't make sense, you're not even getting the full experience of the rebuilds.

Absolutely do not skip it. You will definitely be confused if u skip it. Its actually not as bad as you’ve probably heard. Its a little convoluted at some points, but it should be easy enough to follow in it’s entirety. There are plot points brought up in 3 that are directly built upon or resolved in 4, so you will not enjoy 4 as much if you have incomplete information from skipping 3.

It sucks. It sucks as much as anyone has said, but it's necessary for 3+1, and the finale is interesting enough to make it worth slogging through.

You're free to prove me wrong though i know you will be unable to. the only nod this movie gets in the final film is shinji having ptsd from the collar for one second near the beginning, it's rightfully considered garbage by anyone with a pair of eyes

Idk why you wouldn’t just take the extra 2 hours to watch the first film, there are minor differences.

If you skip 3.0 and look at 4.0, I don't think you will understand the content or properly understand it, so I suggest you don't skip it.

Go ahead and enumerate and explain how it affects anything in the last movie to prove me wrong then
