Hello! Recently, I’ve read briefly about Poland’s mid-war period (1918-1939), which was pretty interesting, and while reading I stumbled upon this Polish politician: His story’s pretty sad — he got killed five days after being elected as the president of the Republic of Poland, but his surname really did make me chuckle. And yeah, I know that the stress falls on “o”, so it doesn’t sound as similar as you might’ve thought when you actually pronounce it, but anyway… So, here’s a question to Polish anime fans: he’s gotta some kind of meme in your anime community, right? |

Also little correction - He was a president of Second Polish Republic [1918-1939]. The first Republic of Poland was Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth [1569 - 1795]. The current one from 1989 is the Third Polish Republic [as in between of Second and Third was the Polish People Republic - Communistic times - 1944 - 1989] 2 Patriotic songs originating from 1917 and 1918 for the climax: |

I’ve read about all those wars (except for the one with Czechoslovakia): about the war with Ukraine as part of West Ukrainian’s People Republic’s history, about the war with bolshevik Russia as part of the Ukrainian Revolution/War of Independence (about the siding with the Directorate, the retaking of Kyiv, and the fallback to the Polish border after bolshevik’s counteroffensive, the Miracle on the Vistula), so I know that even though it’s technically called “mid-war” but the war actually continued up until 1922. Then there was a somewhat democratic period (with lots of internal chaos, however) from 1922 to May 1926 until Pilsudski launched a coup and turned the country into an authoritarian presidential republic, which can also be called an internal conflict, since Pilsudski expected it to bloodless but there was some resistance from Wojciechowski’s supporters, which resulted in a 3-day (Wikipedia says it was 2 days, huh) bloodshed. Yeah… Also, thanks for the correction about the Second Republic of Poland. |
