I'm only at episode 41, which is in Heaven's Arena. Now, I really liked the take on Hunter's Exam, I don't prefer it over 2011 in some way but think it's great on it's own. Zoldyck family had it's highlights and it's downsides, but it was still pretty decent, but Heaven's Arena is...
So poorly adapted. Like, they skipped the entire Kastro fight, added a filler fight with Killua, gave it weird pacing issues...
I really liked this arc in 2011, but I just can't get behind it here. I know that Yorknew is masterfully adapted, so I'm looking forward to that a lot, but they really fumbled the ball here in my opinion.

Yeah I much prefer the 2011 version as well, I grew up with this version though, 2011 is more faithful and improved imo.

Imo, the Heaven arc is my least favorite. It’s certainly more interesting in terms of what could have been a typical “tournament arc” and lays a lot of ground work for future concepts in the show/manga, but it was difficult to keep the same interest the previous episodes were able to achieve. The 99 adaptation does an even worse job and looks more like a B-rate Dark Tournament. I think most people will agree with you here

I think HxH 1999 is better than 2011, but only some parts. Hunter Exam and Greed Island were my favorite arcs and I like how the 1999 version did them. In 2011 they are rushed and boring. York New ark is one of the most hated for me along with that ant arc.

I think 1999 is fun, but not as good as 2011 a decent amount of the time. Hunter's Exam was paced pretty poorly, though I had a great time, and Heaven's Arena was awfully paced as well with some baffling issues. 2011 isn't as great in Yorknew, my third favorite arc after Chimera Ant and Chairman Election, and I've heard that the original version of Greed Island is poorly animated, so I probably won't watch it for a long time. Greed Island has never been anything special to me, though it is a pretty fun arc overall, I just don't care for the villain at all and think a lot of the new characters are pretty forgettable, besides Biscuit.
Overall the pacing of 2011 is way more accurate to the manga, and I think it's all the better for that. Though I still respect your opinion, I can totally see why you'd prefer the 1999 version of Hunter's Exam, I personally just can't get over how slow it felt compared to how the rest of the adaptation was paced.

While I'm certainly not the biggest fan of this arc (it was just kinda boring to me) the Kastro was still amazing to watch in the 2011 version so I was disappointed to discover that it was not there in the 1999 version. But yeah, Yorknew was a masterpiece in both versions and I even prefer 1999's version of the Hunter Exam so it's not all bad.
