| Vol. 1, Chapter 7 & Epilogue: The final chapter was pretty good. It had a good final fight with a solid send-off. Unfortunately, the epilogue was utterly terrible. The near fall of the Republic was the most consequential thing to occur in the novel, but all we get in the story is a summary. The only reason it was even included was to have Lena finally meet the survivors of her old squadron, but that scene wasn't even needed for the story. This first novel was more than good enough with the final chapter, and that scene could have been a big moment in a different novel. The worst thing about this novel is that it is exactly what it is trying to object. This novel beats you in the head about how blind racism is bad, but the epilogue just spews blind racism towards the Alba. The end result is that it makes it seem like the novel isn't saying that racism is inherently bad, you just have to make sure that you're racist to the right people. If key individuals do something bad then you can just throw the whole lot of them in the evil bucket. |
