It's my opinion, you have the right to don't agree.

I did enjoy violet evergarden, but I don't understand why people like this show this much. Maybe I just have really bad taste but I was bored 60% of the time and I didn't cry once.

Can someone tell me, what's so good about this show?

The visuals , the animation , the sad stories , the development of Violet , and the research of love.
But from a quick glance at your profile , i indeed believe that it's not the type of Anime that you would like to begin with.

there nothing wrong with you having that feeling mate, i absolutely love the visuals, music, emotional moments and characters 10/10 for me.

im the same with monogatari, i watched season 1 and 2 and i was bored most of it but wanted to push through, never force yourself to watch something you dont enjoy pal never have to justify yourself.

well, tbf for me it was a bit boring too, i have to admit its pacing is somewhat different from what i have previously experienced.
but i liked it anyway, mostly because of the great character development and the whole idea, the show presents you - finding yourself, your place in this world, overcoming difficulties and helping people to do so, becoming independent and finally learning what love itself means. i liked how the main story is built - it is like a diary, a compilation of many little stories of many others, that combine together and become a one big story of one certain girl, searching for a purpose. all of this combined with like the best graphics and animation this industry ever made.
didn't cry once, havent really felt the urge to. but it was a really beautiful journey in all aspects for me (not the film tho, it simply ruined all the best plot points i mentioned earlier, big L)
not a masterpiece, but a decent 8 for me. maybe it was overhyped for ya and you expected much better for all the praising it got, or maybe you are just not cut out for it. nothing wrong with that too.

Violet. while all my favourite characters are there because of my preferences on personality, I included Violet because I truly like her charecter development.

Instead of a preset charecter, she was literally started as a empty shell and through every episode a new aspect was added to her charecter. And the plot beautifully creates the optimal stage for that. i also like this anime for its animation.

Everything is subjective, but Violet is objectively the best written female character in all anime. Her growth over the series, finding her own place in new world, in this new predicament and basically re-learning how to be a human is truly a sight to behold.

Also, visuals are absolutely phenomenal.
And episode 10 is also probably the best singular episode in all anime.

I like how you said everything is subjective at first😂
then proceeded to say Violet is objectively..
I would have agreed with u till that final movie degraded her character but y'all aren't ready for that discussion

i disagree. thought it was really well executed. in fact the only critique i can give is that it felt like it was trying too hard to be a tearjerker in the last third of the show. completely contradicting you but whatever we all have our own tastes

I did not cry at all. Numb to sad moments after seeing too much Gundam/Macross.

I enjoy the parts that shows that war has aftermath consequences such as people struggling to return to their normal livelihoods.

EDIT: After War Gundam X is another anime where people are recovering from a disastrous war.

Oh finally the hate thread

am I the only one who thinks Violet is treated as a side character? Like sure, this series is indesputably about her "adventures", but not about her as a character. Even her turning point, her mental breakdown, PTSD meltdown, remember this scene? It's literally half an episode long. From start, through finish, to conclusion. 10 minutes. For the most important character development scene in the whole series.

I just couldn't ever think of Violet as a main character. All 12 episodes felt like loosely connected sad war stories. It's an okay watch, stunning visually, but... nothing more?

I liked the first movie. First half of it, at least. Finally, Violet, Violet, Violet. "She's making friends! Lovely!", I said. And it was lovely. But then the movie shoves an enormous dick up your ass and presents 50 minutes of life of a literally random girl. I am still malding over this.

And then, the long-awaited movie... same shit. I mean I wont deny it's the best instance of the series, but so what. This movie could've been cut in half and nothing would be lost. First half is about... yah, about who? I don't recall, or course I don't, why would I.

I understand this figure of narrative; Violet developing feelings by writing letters is a great, unique idea. Nevertheless, it's too vauge for me. Main character has to stand out from side characters. Violet doesn't.

Agree with all the above or not, but this one is just true: VE is carried by episode 10 and all the people who went "omg so sad" and slapped 10/10 with zero further thoughts.

Hummm... that depends, in my case a good anime need to have a good Char Development or a Good Story...
I think the pacing was perfect, the Violet Develop was amazing...
I really think is about taste and Violet Ev is a masterpiece that not everyone is ready to watch it...
The goal was simple but unique...
I thought she would just tell everyone about her past but it didn't happen...

Violet Ev is easily my Top5

I'm not gonna deny the last part🤷🏾‍♂️
I saw one of the most beautiful episodes of my life
but without it I still would have given it a 9 for the music and episode 7.

It's just my opinion but I felt nothing when hearing the music. I don't find it good and I really don't like the opening. I only enjoyed the ending theme.

Music is the most subjective thing so I'm not surprised. I've always loved soft and classical type of music.
it's however my most favorite soundtrack collection in anime
and yh The ending is Goated

yeah the ending is really good ngl

Ange, lain, kumiko, greenhill frederica, hilda, homura, nadeko…. And these are just some examples I can list a lot more… all these characters have much more depth meaning and project their respectful themes much better. Not to mention the movie of violet completely destroyed her character. I like violet don’t get me wrong, but saying that she is objectively the best female character is compete blasphemy and disgrace for so many majestic characters. Even without the movie violet is B level character at most.

The visuals and animations (far better than anything put up). Well made characters and story. Plot alone is very relevant these days (A war torn city that finally achieved peace but still cant fully achieved it due to peoples hunger for blood and power). Violett is so relatable. Some people cant find love and has no idea what it was. My previous relationships was a trainwrecks. Maybe thats why I can relate to her since despite being in a relationship. I never felt loved in those things and I wanna know what love is.

if this does not stir your emotions on any end. Then maybe you are not into sad stories. BTW the sad part wasnt on the anime but on the movie.

It's all just pretentious sadbait. Also I watched terminator 2 so I didn't think violet was a good character but I wouldn't have thought she was even without that movie anyway because I prefer my characters to not have generic tagline motives such as finding out "what is love" nor do I think the robot gaining feelings thing is executed well in this show and her personality is extremely generic anyway
Its a really surface level show that baits you into crying if you're not paying attention but if you are above the level of a mutt salivating at the sight of food you shouldn't catch yourself crying at the sad things happening to any of these cardboard cutout characters

Its an acquired taste. It definitely is not for the typical shonen fan as they would not begin to understand.
The character development of violet is something you watch over the episodes. You see how she changes her view of self as just being a tool of war to how her letters affect other peoples lives. The animation, sounds and music were emmaculate, I've used the scenery for my wall paper many a times. I liked the Pacing as well, it wasn't another isekai or romcom which I skipped the opening off and ending off nor did I play it at 1.25/1.5x and fast forward when something I didn't like happened and finish 12 episodes in 3 hrs.
I listened to the silence, looked at the landscape and got engrossed in the moments of stillness.
I took my time and watched it over a week and then felt empty. I thought to myself, of course this is fiction, but it almost feels real, I pondered how did the people of old survive, after the wars, no ac, not much literacy, death from just a bout of pneumonia, wound sepsis was almost certain. and people survived, thrived and that is how we have come to enjoy life, peace, facilities. Many isekai/ the fantasy anime are set in these olden times, why didn't I think about these things then. Well that is atleast in my opinion the modern day entertainment. It is meant to be fast paced action with instant gratification as the OP beats another guy every episode with fan service every few minutes to seconds/ Superficial comedy designed to be consumed and not thought about later. Even the silences and the pauses gave me time to think about the internal dialogue of the characters and about things like this. This show I feel transcends even its medium as most medieval shows on TV don't evoke such thoughts. And that is why at least in my opinion the series is a 10 and definitely an acquired taste.
Note: The final movie was in my opinion a bit disappointing compared to the series.

Before i watched this show i heard many people say that if you wanna cry because of anime, Violet is one of that titles. In that time i was like heh sure, like as if i was ever gonna cry about show. I am not that type of person. But man, I must confess that my tears were on the edge.

As I read the coments here, the majority of you says that it really was boring for you.

To be honest, I feel completely different about this series. For me it had tension since the beginning and kept it till the end. It was overflowing with feelings. My emotions have been on rollercoaster. I was devoured by it's atmosphere and it's deatils. It's really hard to explain how and why I feel like this about this series. But one thing i know for sure. I enjoyed every single minute watching it. Even when there was scenes without any spoken word it wasn't silent for me at all. It was communicating with my soul. And i am thankful for that.

This series was a pleasant surprise for me. And it definitely belongs to my soft spot animes.
