I like the idea behind it but yeah, it was overwhelmed by the poor pacing as well as the annoying fan service in an otherwise non-ecchi show (I get that it’s designed to be a seinen series but still).

Characters don’t help either. Characters outside of maybe Sajuna are either annoying (*cough* *cough* Marin *cough*) or just straight up plot devices. No offense to people who like Marin btw.

I can't say it was good but fairly some of the characters were written well so being objective I'd say the entire show was middling. Is it overrated? Mostly yes.

ehhhh no. If anything it's underrated. 'Waifu bait' implies that it's devoid of anything but fan service and that's hardly the case. Sure there's a bit of humor involving sexual tension, but there are important themes and these themes are really the center of the show.

Like how can you call this show shallow, when one of the main themes is perseverance over the shallowness in our society. One of the characters: Juju is literally a personification of this theme. Like an instagram cosplayer, who's values become deeper throughout the show?

What about Gojo turning his shame about something he loves more than anything into pride as he finds that the dedication and skill he pours into his art is valued? What about how he turns from complete isolation to acceptance and his realization that there's a whole world out there? Does this really not resonate with anyone?

And Kitagawa, besides being a 'waifu,' is such a genuine person and uncompromisingly champions the afformentioned virtures; all summing up to perhaps the most feel good anime I've ever seen. And this by no means is comprehensive.

The irony in this thread is that these are virtues that our society often ignores, but desperately needs to focus on.

In every anime you can find something good, important themes and things like that but i dont think all the people that watched this show were there for the important themes.. Mostly for kitagawa and because its entertaining but overall nothing new, nothing original

ehm! you are saying an anime is about animation and fanservice, even though it's not totally about that but even then it's like saying a game is overrated because its characters are well drawn and gameplay is good. obviously it has some fanservice and many good anime have them but the character development is far better that aot and in some sense it's underrated, but obviously if you want to put an anime down all you need is to point that it's about fanservice and you think it's justified. This kind of thinking worked in 2010 but not now, people nowadays won't Just hate an anime and say it's overrated just because there is fanservice in it so no it's not overrated

My biggest problem is the fan service and the story. Its plot does not make me look forward to anything. You know like in some shows, you can imagine different scenarios for a character or how the plot might progress? All I see from Sono bisque doll is the same thing, cosplaying with a mix of Gojou and Marin moments that you know will lead to bupkis and then going into the next outfit. The plot doesn't make the show flexible at all. The fan service is also dumb. I don't know why the mangaka took it upon himself/herself to sexualize that middle school girl in such a neck-bearded way.
