Anime and Manga made me confused about high school boys in Japan(which are probably the dominating group of characters in all of Anime and Manga with the most representation, i think).

some Anime depicts them as delinquents but to my knowledge, that sort of thing mostly ended in the early 2000's, some depicts them as very cute and almost girly and fraglie, and then theres obviously the badass and too cool for school kind.
this is obviously Anime and not real life, but grains of truth must be in there, so i wondered what is closer to reality- are today's Japanese highschool boys are relatively feminine and cute compared to American\western boys, are they still quite a few delinquents like there were in the 80's and 90's, or are they trying to give out even a little bit of that "cool mc aura" kind of vibe. most of what i seen on youtube videos for example was either about cute little grade schooler Japanese kids or about the serious and hardworking adults.

I don't know about Japan, specifically. But western gangs of young delinquents certainly were more popular in real life before the internet (since there was no internet, kids would spend more time in the streets). So I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with Japan, too.

But even back then, a student's background could differ from their classmates. So, there could be thugs, bullies, shy kids, smart ones... there isn't exactly a rigid definition for students of any era.

this. Delinquency was always seen as a sort of personal assertion of power from the system which is why it was always seen as cool. It's really something related to the "alpha male" instincts many animals have. Assertion of power back before civilization meant women and children. Now it's really just a release of hormones that makes your body feel good.

Yeah!

And upon further inpection, apparently a band called Yokohama Ginbae started influencing the delinquent youth of the early 80's with that pompadour hairstyle.
