Is the movie better than the show???

Recently finished vilot evergarden loved it so much I gave it a 9/10 and I was just wondering is this movie better than the show or is it one of those cases where the movie has a satisfying conclusion and that's why it's rated higher on mal than the actual show.

if you liked the show i would definitely recommend to watch the movie. i would say it does have a satisfying ending but thats not why the rating is high.

If you are satisfied with the show's ending then you might not like it . The show is 9/10 is for me as well but the movie is a 4/10 , but that's just me . The fans are giving it unbelievable amount of love and praise for its ending .

Both movies and specials are worth watching. Which are better is obviously subjective but they are all masterfully done. Evergarden will forever be an amazing work of art.

both the movie and show are amazing. but in my opinion i liked the show more than the movie. although the latter does bring a satisfying conclusion to the series, i'm sure its heart warming nature, seeing violet's overall growth, ost, animation, etc. contribute to it being highly rated.

the answer to the question of "which one is better" or "is _ better than _" ultimately depends on you - the viewer.

They’re equally on par if you scale the quality of a movie and the quality of a show differently. The show was really good, and the movie is highly rated since it compliments the show well. It ties up some loose ends from the show and gives a little bit for fans. As someone mentioned though, if you were really happy with the ending of the series, you could not watch the movie (I do strongly recommend the show since it is the true ending). IMO just watch the movie and see for yourself.

I don't think that the movie is horrible, but it is in no way better than the original, and if you ask me it betrayed some of the themes of the original and was very unsatisfying for me atleast. But there is a chance you will like it.

For me i guess the movie is good because of the show, also the movie making the show even more better, but if u just ask about story writing, animation, music, etc, the show is better than the movie, i personally think that the movie has so damn much more potential.

Give it a change... its absolutely worth a watch... I really hated the ending, but most people loved it and I think u will too... and even if u also dont like the ending, the 1,5 hours of movie before the ending are absolutely worth the watch

If you like the series than you should watch the movie, since it's a continuation / conclusion.. but personally i liked the series more.

I think there’s definitely that conclusion high rating bias. But I also think it’s better than the show cause the climax and conflict has more relation to the themes and style of Violet Evergarden. I don’t like the ending climax of the show just inherently, if you know what I mean.

You'll like the movie if you liked the show. Feel free to watch the 30 min special and the first movie (1h30) as well. You'll probably enjoy those as well. Myself I loved the 30 min special the most.

I think the reason it got a higher rating is because there are fewer votes. And these votes seem to have been given by the fans of the series. I personally did not like the movie. I feel like it ruined some things. The series is definitely better

In my opinion, no...but it's still well-done and the animation is eye candy as expected.

Edit: Oh, and the higher rating is more likely just caused by the sequel effect. Meaning since it is a sequel, it has less people who hated the first one watching or rating it.

what no ofc not aksks the show is a masterpiece and the movie is good too, but only a piece of that masterpiece. if i don’t make sense im sorry but even after watching a ton of anime, violet evergarden will always be in my top 3, it’s that good. the movie should be watched after the series tho, it’s lovely and crucial for the story!

I hate this movie. The original ending of the show was fine enough but I think becasue of this movie, the characters of Evergarden and Gilbert have ruined.

The show is much better than the movie since the movie was all only about Violet's feelings towards general. And the show was about delivering emotions using messages which made the series much better than the movie but it's a great movie tho.

I got to say this done WAY BETTER than the TV series.

The pacing and length is just perfect for this type of contend story.
The episodic format of TV series of Violet Evergarden kinda kill the momentum and pacing.
The music, the visual , the pacing, the story, the dialogue are just perfection.

The less they focus on Violet's unnatural superhuman capability and unknown backstory, the better the show gets.

As someone who also read the novel, this part also are unexplained and generally makes no sense. Oh, do note none of the movie/ tv series animate Violet's brutal /bloody moment during her initial introduction cuz Kyoto anime probably figure out this part of Violet makes little sense so they don't bother to talk about it.
