I've always been curious, why doesn't Vagabond have an anime adaptation?? why are many studios and even big studios so afraid to adapt Vagabond, if it's only because of the artstyle there are many manga that also have the same good Artstyle like Uzumaki has also been announced to get an anime adaptation.

It should be simple because they are afraid of disappointing Manga fans. Also One thing to consider is that Gekiga series in general aren’t very popular to translate as anime because of the target market.

The most popular anime and manga are shounen, shoujo, Harem series targeted at younger readers. That’s where the money is.

Yeah, it's truly mind boggling. I don't know what's taking Visual Flight so long.

I haven't read it yet, but knowing it's a manga that has one of his major strong points in the incredible art-style i think it's considered a dangerous adaptation *2016 Berserk flashbacks*

Vagabond is insanely popular for a seinen tbh, it's the 22th most sold manga with 82 million volumes sold (to make a comparison Berserk sold 40 million), so i think it's more the first one

I haven't read it but I understand it's hard. For those of you saying that it wouldn't get popular or it will get messed up, I don't think that's entirely true. It would still get really hyped up and if an experienced studio like Madhouse adapted it, it would also be quality.

I mean they adapted the less popular Shigurui, so they could have done the same with Vagabond

It would be very hard to make an adaptation that would please Vagabond's audience, let alone one that would make money.

Not every manga series can be adapted into an anime adaptation and vagabond is one of those series

Not every manga need anime adaptation, especially Vagabond. It will be hard to make something that will satisfy the fans.

Some manga shouldn't ave an anime adaptation and this is one of them.

the same reason that berserk has a shit anime. it's really hard to animate a manga with this level of detail

Because anime needs investors and investors are probably under the assumption that it'll be impossible to adapt given the incredible artwork and time and money needed to reach that level of detail, and there needs to be enough interest to earn that money back.

Why doesn't Berserk have an anime? Why doesn't Ito Junji's works have an anime? These are two questions I would have loved to ask along with yours too, but unfortunately not. Let's just take lessons from the dark past.

I think its art style is too difficult to make in an anime. Vagabond's art is extremely realistic, it would feel awkward in animation.

Probably because the art style is difficult to turn it into anime.
Not every manga needs to be adapted into anime tho. Vagabond is one of them.

Not everything needs to be adapted. Consider the length of Vagabond and schedule of animation studios; we'd be getting some Kingdom 3D animation and everyone would be upset. It's not about disappointing manga fans because I'm sure we'd love it despite having it's flaws, it's simply due to its necessity. I doubt there was ever a poll to get a feasible numerical pinpoint on how many fans wanted an anime adaptation, maybe there needs to be.

Inoue set the bar way too damn high I guess.

Vagabond is a fucking masterpiece that doesn't need any sort of adaptation (whether live action or anime). Let it remain as a manga because fans enjoy it that way.
Karma's a bitch , AND we all know the disasters of Berserk 2016&2017.

I wonder if studios will start going back through the years and start picking up manga to be animated, because there is a lot of great manga out there that just never reached the popularity it needed at the time to get milked for more money.

But now that studios are actually doing justice to manga for the most part compared to something like 10+ years ago I think it's a possibility. Lookn at how JJBA has exploded in popularity because of it's new adaptions for example. Vagabond actually sold extremely well also. I think there could actually be an audience for it.

Idk. Maybe whenever a studio starts working on an adaptation they get roped into playing basketball, never finishing it.
