Who is better written?

Jonathan Joestar From JoJo’s part 1 and Tanjiro are very similar characters. I’m curious as to who everyone thinks is the better written character (not stronger). Personally I would say Jonathan but I haven’t read the demon slayer manga.

Jonathan is one of the most boring characters I have ever seen in all of fiction. he serves next to no purpose besides setting up the rest of the story and does next to nothing with the time he gets and that's not entirely his fault as much as it is Araki's. Tanjiro doesn't have this issue, so by default it kinda has to go to Tanjiro.

tanjiro remains 1d char. throughout the manga...idk why some people think kind protagonist equals good protagonist...no char. Development throughout the series...and I haven't watched jojo so can't comment on that

Idk y but I just don't like Jonathan even a bit, I'd say only Giorno, Dio and Jotaro are better written then Tanjiro (its just my opinion ur might differ)

These shows are completely different and should not be compared. Better comparison would be Naruto vs Tanjiro.

Even in a different anime forum people admit Jonathan is better. I personally enjoy Jonathan more than Tanjiro and feel he was better written in 9 episodes than Tanjiro was in the manga.

If this was any other jojo, tanjirou would have been blown out of the water, but Jonathan is literally the most 1-note and most boring of all of them.

I'm giving this to tanjirou, but I'm not giving any shame to jonathan.. The first part of jojo was released in the 1980s after all.

I dont see why people are drawing comparison from two completely different series and two completely different characters, whats the point in all of this.

If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Jonathan was not that good but very humble and gentle and Jojo bloodline also start from him so he plays a very important role. Other than that tanjiro Kamado is Also very humble and strong minded,his dedication is also powerful and trains to get stronger and stronger to achieve his goal

I'm sorry but Jonathan is like justice incarnate he's beyond boring and the author himself admitted that Jonathan and Dio were just standard good vs evil Tanjiro is similar yes but he has empathy that conflicts with his sense of duty but contrary to most protagonists it doesn't impede it, he isn't a character who refuses to kill because kill bad I feel like he is a very reasonable personification of a sense of duty, and competence, but also of humanity, and empathy.

I personnally enjoyed both of them,
but I still think Jonathan is funnier and Tanjiro is nicer.
They both are badass and have a nice backstory

I admit Jonathan is not a good protagonist and is boring. But JoJo bizarre adventure is really good and man do theyhave good taste for liking jojo

Ofcourse haters will say Tanjiro is 1d and would ignore his growth and several characteristics as a whole.... like its no big deal
He is a empath, Has a sense of duty, grows as a person as well and most of all he doesnt stop because he feels empathy, he does his job in the end...
He is someone from which alot of people can learn morals from...

Both Jonathan and Tanjiro are pretty similar in personality. But as far as writing goes, I would say I liked Jonathan more. I didn't like him in the anime. But I liked him more in the manga. I feel like the Phantom Blood portion in the anime was just way too rushed to really get attached to his character. I can under criticisms of him being naive and too kind. But he had some badass moments in my opinion. I also sympathize with him a lot for the shitty life that Dio made for him. This of course me just comparing Phantom Blood to the first season of the Demon Slayer anime. I don't know how much Tanjiro's character develops past that. But I like both characters either way.
