Hi, It's me Nezuko. This is a bit of a read so bear with me.

I started the manga back in 2016 and have always know it as KnY or Kimetsu No Yaiba for much longer so I just stuck with it. When it started publishing as "Demon Slayer" in the west in 2018, I wasn't that into the name. It felt generic and unmemorable and sounded like a video game title. Kind of like how "Shokugeki no Soma" was changed to the generic name: Food Wars. Not really that interesting to me. Kimetsu also has the appeal of not being an original Japanese word. It's actually invented to communicate the theme of a blade that destroys demons. The name Kimetsu no Yaiba has a lot of meaning to it that is just lost in translation and there have even been Japanese professors who have noted this in analysis of the series. But people like easy to remember English names so they always try to use the basic english name whenever it's available, despite Kimetsu No Yaiba still being apart of the westernized title as well.

To understand my point of view, think about this. How would you feel if Jujutsu Kaisen was never called Jujutsu Kaisen at all in the west, but just translated and published in English as "Sorcery Fight" Both on Crunchyroll and in popular Media? Or just Jujutsu Kaisen: Sorcery fight? It feels weird thinking about that now but imagine if the really pushed "Sorcery Fight" as the main title in the west. My guess would be that it would catch on and become more popular of a title despite it having similar "oversimplified name" problems.

I want to compare how people think. If it's just what the common person uses more because the media pushes that romanized name or if there is a super clear preference for western names vs keeping the name in Japanese.

I think it is true. It is literally “the blade of the demon slayer”
So i preferred that instead of just demon slayer

Obviously the original names will always be a better fit. Although Demon Slayer is definitely more generic, it definitely isn’t a bad name. I use both interchangeably. If they didn’t give it an English name it probably wouldn’t be as palatable to the West. At least it isn’t as bad as “Sorcery Fight” though?l, lmao.

I personally like to use the official English title. For example this anime is called "Kimetsu no Yaiba", the official English title is "Demon Slayer". In most cases, I will use "Demon Slayer" more than "Kimetsu no Yaiba". "Jujutsu Kaisen" is a different story tho. The official English title is the same, so I don't think anyone will use "Sorcery Fight". Well some English title may sound generic, but most of the time it's easier to remember the English title than the Japanese title for some people. (Sorry if there are any mistakes in my sentences, English is not my first language)
It's not wrong to rank anime based on your enjoyment ✌🏻

We the official English title at least on IMDB.com and the western published novels is actually both. It’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. If you look at the title in any database they always include Kimetsu no Yaiba whereas for a series like Attack on Titan they don’t write it out as Attack on Titan: Shingeki no Kyojin. Right?

No the official English title includes Kimetsu no Yaiba alongside demon slayer every time. Jujitsu Kaisen isn’t the “English” title. They just never bothered to change the Japanese to an English westernized version. I know English isn’t your first language but does that Make sense?

But some people feel demon slayer just sounds a little weird. It sounds like one of those fps demon shooting games I would play in the Theater lobby when I went to the movies as a kid.
