Best way to look at this is to watch it as a non-canon OVA. Like that one beach episode every anime has but a few episodes long.

generally the term "canon" does not really have much significance, it is used as a slang and particulary only in the english language and even there it is vague, especially in dragon ball's case which is a large franchise with multiple series, if you talked to a non-american about GT being "not canon" in dragon ball for example they would be confused because the majority counts all of the official material equally and this is also how it is handled by the owner companies

franchises such as dragon ball, fate, pokemon, yu gi oh etc are large franchises with multiple series and authors, so it is not really possible to pick one over the other especially when they are all marketed together, akira toriyama (the original author) of the dragon ball manga has retired for the most part, most characters and story is made by other people, mainly toyotaro who also designed super saiyan 5 in dragon ball af (alternate future)

Dragon Ball Heroes is as official as any other dragon ball series, whether the original, Z, GT and Super, they are all part of the dragon ball franchise, and currently we are in the era of heroes, and whether you like the heroes anime or not, that is an entirely subjective opinion, the general public approves it, which is why it has four arcs so far

Actually, the one who designed the infamous "SSJ5 Goku" (It's not even Goku but an random OC with it's unique form lol) was a Spanish dude named Tablos.AF who just recently drawn his own (True) version of DBAF manga lol.
