hi, since I struggled a bit and hesitated for reasons I'll talk about later, and since I know quite some people have struggled as me, this is a guide to continuing kaiji after season 2, for people who loved the anime and want to continue the manga.
if you absolutely don't read mangas, well you'll just have to wait for a hopefull season 3.
so there are 3 majors questions :
-where to contninue
-is it as good
-does part 3 revolve too much about mahjong and not "original" gambles like it's first 2 parts (season)? (answer : no)
where to continue ?
You have to start on kaiji's 2nd part, chapter 129, that is where the anime ends. then you have 5 more chapters necessary to understand what's going on in the 3rd part and more, reading those will make you avoid going "what the absolute hell is going on" like me when starting the 3rd part.
is it as good, and does part 3 revolve "too much" about mahjong?
So this is why I was hesitant at first, I thought it wouldn't be the "original" gambling games kaiji's known for anymore, and some boring super technical mahjong or whatever card games.
but no.
not at all, rest assured.
You don't need to known anything about mahjong to enjoy this 3rd part. Well more precisely, you'd need the knowledge (that is well explained in the manga, there's a bonus chapter to explain mahjong basics) that it takes about 10 minutes to get, and to understand what it means if they're "waiting for 4-5-6-8 sou" or something for example. But really, about 10 minutes, you can even forget half the rules, it doesn't really matter, and you can still enjoy it, and let me say that 10 minutes of learning about the basics of mahjong is absolutely worth it for 10 hours of great kaiji content.
This 3rd part is considered as the "weakest" from what I've seen, and I agree it's not as good as the first 2 parts, but ultimately it is kaiji, it is pretty great, and if you've liked kaiji's first 2 seasons, I can guarantee 99% you'll enjoy this one. It isn't technicalities of mahjong or card games, and the umbelivable and absolutely great mind games that go on here and just like the first 2 parts : totaly understandable, and don't revolve around technicalities. (of card games for example). Part 4 and 5 are great too.
about part 4 and 5, they are as good, a bit different (thanksfully) so they offer different things, and it's good. Again, if you've liked Kaiji, you'll like it, 99% sure. Part 6 is my favourite (with the first 2), it is not finished yet, but it is damn good, you may want for it to finish or not to read it.
I don't know if this will be useful to some people, but I wanted to do it to help some people who might want to continue this great series. if you have any questions, I'll answer them if I can.
