The Irregular at Magic High School (light novel)
| Hello everyone! The anime covers I believe around volumes 1-7. I have read volumes 7-12 and the review for the novel are pretty good. My question is for those of you who have read pretty deep into the novel, maybe up to volume 16-20 or more. Does the quality seem similar, a steep decrease, a steep increase? I am trying to decide if this series is worth committing to, or if I will just be let down later in terms of quality. |

| First, I still do recommend reading volume 1-6. While the anime is already a good adaptation, that doesn't include most of the technical details of the magic side. Now then, I would say their whole story of 2nd year in high school have a different cut of cloth in terms of it's direction. While their lives in the previous year was all about them getting caught up with a bunch of terrorists, this time around it'll be them or at least Tatsuya delving in with politics. As you could already tell from the 12th volume, the main attraction was all about the new characters but it clearly also have a lot of conspiracies going on in the background. This'll be the approach for most of the successive volumes except for the 16th where the main event and the political movement is one and the same. After accumulating all this methodical maneuvering, it'll all be threaded on the Ten master clan conference arc which is three volume long again. So if you are into that type of world building, then it's a good transition in the narrative. It could also be considered a weakness of the series if you aren't into that sort. If you're simply just anticipating for the badass moments, then that'll have to wait until they're in their 3rd year as it'll also have a change in the story again but more suited as a climax to when the narrative gradually became Tatsuya against the world. That also including internal conflicts so against some of his old allies as well, Juumonji for example. It's not over yet so I don't have a conclusive opinion for the 3rd part but it's definitely going strong so far. So personally, it's something like this for me: Vol. 1-11(8/10) 12-21(7.5/10) 22-latest(8.5/10) Overall, 10/10 XD |
