If you're an ecchi fan? Other ecchi fans. It's a really welcoming fandom to people who share that similar basis, even in light of the differences that will run deeper than liking anime tits. I happen to be an ecchi fan. I absolutely adore the internal unity and general friendliness of other ecchi fans towards fellow ecchi fans. We've been doing this for 11 fucking years now on this site specifically and likely even longer before then off-site, viewing ourselves as our own thing. And it's great.
I don't think it's as welcoming to non-fans, though. It feels pretty gate-keepy at times, but not on basis like "normie" or "female," just more "What the fuck are you doing here if you just want to lurk the lewd pic sharing we're doing and don't actually like these kinds of anime/manga? You don't belong here. Get out."
Which I happen to not only not mind, but actively approve of. It's like if I went into a space for psychological thriller fans, never shut the fuck up about how I hate that type of series, and then tried getting something else from them for my own benefit despite clogging up their space with my bullshit. It's only sensible to not walk into a space for a certain type of fan and then behave like that and then spout out "I only joined for the pictures lol, i dun actually like ecchi, I think it sux" at every possible opportunity you can remind people. It happens more than people think, as somebody who owned the biggest space for ecchi fans specifically on this site for a long time. And if they acted like that and didn't go silent due to getting shit on by other people, I ended up throwing them out.
And yes, we do like our own, separate spaces from the broader anime fandom. It's why we have three different 10,000+ member clubs that all see decent levels of activity relative to other clubs on this site still, which have struggled since the MALpocalypse, albeit we've all mostly moved to Discord for simple chat due to it being a lot more intuitive than MAL club comments are, and clubs themselves are mostly for event hosting. But, most importantly, it's all the fuck away from you people. That's good. Ones like me that go into a neutral ground like this are rare and there's a reason for that.
So yeah. I love ecchi fans. But I think that's only because I'm also an ecchi fan and haven't had any trouble fitting right in and making friends in that space, some of which I've had irl meetups with. I think people in that fandom will be rough if you just join up to be an obnoxious twat to lurk for lewd pics and don't actually like ecchi. We're all tired of it. We've heard it all dozens of times before. Fuck off. And, personally, I think that's good even beyond fatigue because you shouldn't fucking be there if you're not actually a fan and want to make sure everyone there knows it at all times. Go look up lewd pics yourself, or at least keep your fucking head down and actually, properly lurk and leave us to to our own devices.
If you're actually an ecchi fan though? Join right on in and be open. So long as you like ecchi anime/manga and general and have a decent tolerance towards lewd shit, I think it'll be a great time. In H&E we have like, 6 games people play together regularly on Discord, we host simulwatches twice a week, we have heavily customizable cards and shit, we run tourneys and voting and shit. We'll make you forum sets if you want help with that. Can meet other people who also like all of this weird shit and you don't need to hear the same derivative bullshit a dozen times over to talk to people about these things you like in a way that actually feels normal. I love it. And there's other inferior clubs if the type of stuff H&E offers isn't to your liking.
