I don't know there is thread like this before and here I just want to make interesting fun discussion here. Like the title says, which one do you like better?

In my opinion, I go for ray. I know that norman is a genius but for me ray is on another level. I also like ray because of his character and his development through the series.

norman is just too boring. i don't know why.

what about you?

Norman fooled Ray the whole time lol.

Norman was the true mastermind.

On the contrary, Ray is a genius, but Norman is a strategist, Ray is good at noticing things and making gadgets, but plans are not his forte.

You have a point, now that I actually take a second to think about it. Ray's ideas of plans involve petty things like

I like them both but Ray a bit more. He's not afraid to make certain decisions for the best outcome while Norman can be influenced emotionally (for Emma's sake). It got him thinking and brought results in the end, he's cool to create such a plan, but still, Ray is cool too and I can't not recpect him for his own way of handling things.

For the first few episodes, my vote is for Norman but as the story progresses, Ray's character starts to grow in me lol.

Now, I'm really confused haha

yeah, same goes to me, I actually like norman more than ray from the first episode but the story surrounding ray and his relationship with mama make something more special about him.

Both had their singularities: Norman, Ray, Emma.

Norman, a genius and mastermind, reminded me of Scofield's Prison Break. Despite his unconditional love for Emma, he was able to perfectly balance his emotions until the end, so that the plan would be executed with perfection.

Emma, with her angelic determination, naivety and inconsequence, has everything to be the leader of this resistance.

I also understand the "mental charge" Ray has accumulated over the years, and the possibility that he and his mother Isabel are scheming this paradigm shift, creating skeptical minds capable of disagree with their realities and becoming free from this jail.

I see that each one is special, like pieces of a mysterious chessboard that we are starting to explore. For me, along with Dororo, we have the best anime stories in 2019.

PS: I still believe that Norman is alive.

I'd say Norman. While Ray is more interesting as a driving factor in the story, I think the focus of the story managed to make Norman more memorable, by balancing better his badass/confident moments with the scarce but rewarding breaking down moments. He got some of the best scenes in the show alone.

He is morally grey. Anime version of Norman is a bit vanilla compared to manga.
If I remember correctly, the tag play with Krone was basically him testing if it's possible to ambush her and kill her. He also emphasized repeatedly that he's willing to do 'anything' to keep his family safe. Ray was his best friend but he initially wanted to abandon him after using him after he figured out Ray was the traitor.

While I like both, I'd say I prefer Ray as a character. Norman is the genius, but Ray added some interesting twists to the story. Of course, the whole "mastermind" thing by Norman was great as well.

Norman.
But i think in the manga he's more fleshed out (?) since he has a lot of inner monologues there. The same can be said for the other characters as well but in my opinion when looking in comparison it affected him the most, he feels a little more sinister sometimes in the manga eheh

Norman for sure.

Ray feels like a rather one dimensional, sneaky, and morally questionable character for most of the show. Norman has moments of unpredictability, which is perfectly highlighted in the final episode.

Don't get me wrong here, I definitely think of Ray as a great anti-hero character. He's just not as interesting or likable as Norman because of his tendency to make everything into a black and white issue.

okay “the whole time” calm down, he figured out a way to bring the kids with them and also save more kids than just them. He wasn’t the mastermind. Norman himself was in shock of outsmarting Ray (in the manga).

Norman. Ray is a more intelligent designer, tinkerer, and manipulator while Norman is the superior strategist, which is more helpful throughout the series.

Norman is not even in my top 5 characters of this series even though I am up to date with the manga.Ray is just brilliant, I mean who could remember about the time when they were in their mothers foetus.

Ray also tried sacrificing his life. He even knew the pain of having to know the secret for all those years. WTF are you trying to say here?

I agree it's no use trying to compare their sacrifice. Ray tried sacrificing himself yes, but it was also his own wish to take a revenge on Isabella and Demons by taking the "premium meal" away and choosing his own end by himself. Norman on the other hand did it for others, but he had a stubborn side in him that refused to get beaten by mama in a mind game.

i bit late but about the Ray sacrifice, you kinda forgot that he also said that he will distract mom by burning himself (which is a really big distraction) so his not only doing it for himself but for Emma and the others to escape 100% surely.

I didn't forget, I was just pointing out that both of them had some personal reasons. Which is not a bad thing by any means, it adds layers to characters.

Ray didn't NEED to burn himself to keep mom distracted, he's a smart kid and could have come up with the same idea as Norman (burning a dummy) if he had any wish to live. He wanted to die, he thought he didn't deserve to live after helping mom for 6 years (and the other reasons I said earlier)

Someone said Norman is better but think of it, without Ray, his plan cannot work.

Also, if Ray planning to bring everyone in the beginning instead of just Emma and Norman, I believe he also can play Norman role as well.

Another factor is, Ray can't afford to be Norman role because he wanted the knowledge of every books out there and especially making gadgets. He also need to distract Isabella.
He just doesn't has enough time.
