Hi there!
I just finished Yamada-kun, and there are some questions popping up in my head.

I must say that I liked it, although towards the end it feels more and more rushed.
Someone mentioned Nisekoi in other threads regarding the manga, and by sheer coincidence I have read that just before Yamada-kun.
Some points in both stories are surprisingly similar, especially the ending and the epilogue, whith both couples getting married in the end.
I must admit that I like Nisekoi's ending more, it was just feeling more intensely.
During Nisekoi's ending (when they finally get together), I had tears of emotion and joy in my eyes, but Urara's "I am not boring!" in Yamada-kun just gave me a little smile of happiness, missing the intensity of the former...

Perhaps because the final arcs felt so rushed, there are many points and questions I would like to present for discussion:
  • Nene Odagiri is heavily in love with Ryu Yamada and always tries to approach him somehow, but suddenly during the last arcs she completely changed, doesn't blush or get sad, and hardly appears in the story at all. There was no final talk between the two of them to clear things up and no phase for her to overcome her feelings.
In the very end of the story, she ends up being married with Ushio Igarashi who loved her since first year in Highschool, but she always had turned him down and had absolutely no feelings for him.
I think, her finally giving up on Ryu and starting to accepting Ushio's feelings (at least some little hint, no need to show the whole love story) would have deserved more screen time.

  • Noa Takigawa has fallen for Ryu too, and always acted lovey-dovey around and towards him, but after she becomes Ushio's spotter, she hardly interacts with Ryu anymore and doesn't appear much in the story, and if she is, it doesn't seem she ever had feelings for him.
It just feels she was dropped completely out of focus, although much time was spent showing her growing feelings for Ryu.

  • We learn that only people with some sort of problems normally get a witch power, kind of as a means to compensate their weaknesses and providing them a wayto fulfill their wishes and goals. But to use the power, they have to kiss someone, and not all powers are as obvious as body switching.
For exaple Meiko Ootsuka is a very shy girl that doesn't even talk to anyone.
How come she got to kiss somebody or being kissed?
And how come she realized she could send her thoughts and commands to the person she kissed, when she concentrates on that person?

  • We learn that there are always seven witches (plus one "witch-power copier", and one "witch-power thief" or "witch killer") at Suzaku High, if one of them graudates or gets expelled, another student inherits the power.
We learn that the Student Council always tries to get the cooperation of the 7th witch who can erase memories, and that the Council tries to prevent witches from wreaking havoc.
We learn that all 7 witches together can grant any wish by holding sort of a ceremony.
We learn that there is a lot of secret written reports about witch incidents since the school was founded 100 years ago.
We learn that the 7th witch and her/his spotter can sense the presence of witches of the own group, and can see who is under a spell.
We learn that the new Student Council gets told about the witches from the retiring Student Council, so knowledge of the witches is always assured.

But later on, we learn that there are actually two groups of 7 witches, but the Student Council actually only knew about one group.
Why didn't anyone before notice this, in all the past decades? There must have been incidents before with witches from the different groups, and the 7th witch would have noticed if a witch power was not related to the own group.

How does the Student Council get to know about who the 7th witch is?
The 7th witch chooses her successor herself, and if she didn't cooperate with the Student Council, she wouldn't tell them about who the new 7th witch is, and so the Student Council could not approach the new 7th witch.

  • We learn that the class rep is the "Akashic Recorder", and she is not affected by the memory losses, except the final one.
But what exactly is she, and why and for what purpose does she actually have that ability?

  • In the final arc, we learn that Urara is actually the one and only true original witch.
We learn, that just from time to time, somebody possesses some kind of special power and fulfills the criteria to become a witch, and gets informed about this by the Student Council President.
This person has to sign a contract with the Student Council, and gets granted one wish in exchange for all students forgetting about him/her after graduation.
Actually no other witches exist at that time.
At first, Urara refuses to make the contract because that opportunity doesn't mean anything to her, but after her cronologically first encounter with Ryu, she accepts, and her wish is to be with Ryu.
How does that fit together with the info about all the witches and stuff we got up to then?

  • Urara had the only wish to be together with Ryu, how come they not just become close friends, or he not just falls for her, confesses to her, and they spend 3 happy years of Highschool? All of the rest would not have been needed to fulfil her wish, end of the story.
How come her simple wish gave birth to seven witches instead, herself being one of them in the beginning, and yet another group of witches, as well as the witch copier and the witch killer?
How come these witch groups seem to be existing since the founding of the school, with tons of written records and stuff as evidence?
How come the knowledge of the one witch is not known to Yamazaki, and it's instead the knowledge of the 7 witches?
How come she must actively approach a 7th witch to have everyone's memory erased, and how can that 7th witch actually alter the contract so that Ryu's memory wouldn't be erased in exchange for her own memories?
Did the witches simply appear because Urara "isn't boring" as she says, so for her to have some fun during school time together with Ryu?
Did all the written evidence and knowledge just appear magically to further prove the witches story?
Are the memories of the Student Council altered? It seems so, but how would future Presidents know about the original witch if that knowledge is gone?
Are the two groups (or one of them) of 7 witches always appearing if an original witch signs the contract, or just because of Urara's personality and the way she wanted to be together with Ryu?
Did Urara create the other witches intentionally, or were they just created sort of automatically because of her wish?

  • Didn't all the subsequent memory losses and troubles contradict to Urara's wish of being together with Ryu?
When the story starts, they even don't really know each other because of 2 memory losses, and the kissing accident is just a coincidence. So that would all be part of the Great Plan, an inevitable fate?
When does Urara remember the truth? And why doesn't she tell Ryu about it? She always wants to know what Ryu is planning, so she could do the same, as straight as she always is.
Why does the curse, the last memory loss, disappear when Urara and Ryu kiss (we don't even get to see that kiss either) after he has finally saved her? I mean it was the price for getting her wish granted.

What do you think?
Any clues or hints?

whoa dude, even though you typed the whole thing, it's sad that no one replied.

My only doubt is how did Tamaki shinichi lose his steal power?

and to sum up your whole answer, my hypothesis is, the schools wants the power of seven witches, so in order to keep it they made a deal with shiraishi, and for her wish to be fulfilled i.e being with yamada, he should have a loophole(copy power) so that he would not be effected due the powers used by other witches and hence yamada and the seven witches of that generation were born.

I think the story has so many loose ends because it was extended past it's original end. If you think about it, this story would have been perfectly fine if it had ended after the first witch ceremony. The entire spiel about a second group of witches and all that jazz kind of spoiled the second half of the manga for me.

That being said i think they did a wonderful job of tying the arcs together. The only really important loose end is the part about Urara being an original wish. That made no sense whatsoever.

Odagiri's ending was way too rushed, She was a personal favorite to me. Getting married off to Ushio and have 2 kids already! just doesn't go with her character. She should had been single at least with a very close bond with Yamada! & It really felt like that the author had introduced way too many characters for him to tie them up together. I had read Nisekoi before & had felt genuinely satisfied but this manga feels like....that's it!? I had fun reading it but as time is going on and I'm self analysing stuffs, it feels like there are way too much loose endings here. sigh.

Agreed, that and still not really explaining how Ryu become a copier... she being the original witch and making him turn like that seems really retarded and shows the mangaka tried but failed and ended giving up, my biggest complain with an otherwise great and satisfying ending.
