THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

I don't understand the ratings of this one. This is one of the best OVA's of Japanese animation. Script, characters, plot, is a high value production. Now I know where Hayao Miyazaki drew inspiration to make Neko no Ongaeshi. A masterpiece ahead of its time. 10/10

Why is everyone sleeping on Dark Cat? No one's talking on this and it's kind of a travesty that it's so underlooked while the uneducated masses continue to watch things like Attack on Titan or Sword Art Online. The Cro-Magnon who ignore this don't appreciate the messages it provides about Locke's Social Contract and the nature of man. It even hints on Marx's ideologies regarding class structure and consciousness. I really do appreciate that Dark Cat went the unique route of providing another layer of Christian symbolism with Adam and Eve at the end and also how the Black Cat was Jesus, returning to provide us a message of love and freedom from class struggle. Dark Cat allows us to challenge our own reality and begins to dissect how we begin to even understand our relationships with both family and lovers. the boundaries of how to understand what love is, on a level of Eros, Philia, and also Agape. For only in 50 minutes, Dark Cat goes through all three of those layers and examines how we are to understand them on a metaphysical level.

Your review is meaningless and has no respect for the works. Shaking my HEAD

I know right Yuki! I found the beginning scene especially beautiful. As a girl I can also relate to randomly vanishing sometimes and having ants as my only friends. It was heartbreaking when I saw what had happened to those ants though. I can't believe people would rather watch the my hero academia movie over this.

I shed more tears than I am proud to admit during that ant scene. Sat there staring at a blank screen wondering what happened to those ants for a couple hours after it ended. Better than all these so called tearjerkers such as YLIA, clannad etc.
I also really related to the girl's problem with asthma, sometimes it gets so bad I have to move to the country for fresh air.

@Deafness

Oh yeah totally. I actually used to have asthma and going to the country side cleared it for me. It also caused me to become a lesbian but I'm fine with that tbh.

the idea it kinda unique but to bad it skipped so much parts from the manga tho, in only 50 min.
was expecting a sequel tbh 7/10.

Huh, that was weird. While the concept itself was not that bad, many aspects of this anime simply didn't work, but I know even worse animes, so it wasn't that bad I guess

It's noticeable that it's a small story/arc of a bigger plot but I really don't get the extremly low rating.
It mostly works as a promotional OVA for the manga like many others of it's time and it's okay for what it is.
Idk how it compares to the manga since I couldn't even find the raws for it but there is surely worse out there.

Good OVA, too bad it's only 50 min, would love to see more of the evil fighting cats, I didn't expect Aimi to be the super evil, I thought it would be Hiroki because of all of his sadness,
I'll give it an 8 because the of the good OST and the art-style, and also the pacing was really good till the very end, it got me intrigued, they rating is really unfair for this OVA, I've seen way worse ones with rating above 6,
Btw there should be a MANGA entry of Dark Cat on MAL, I don't know why there isn't.
