A cheap entertainment from the 80's. Typical simple action.

I've been on a 80's kick lately and I found this OVA to be pretty good. Kinda reminds you how popular Burt Reynolds was at the time as I feel the cop was modeled after him.

It's your typical 80's crime action story with pretty decent animation.

Good action movie from 80's, simple story and characters, but still very enjoyable.
Some scenes were comedy gold and made me laugh

The MC was completely RETARDED. In the first chase, he jumps from the high building where it was safe, the gunner ASKELADD IS THAT YOU?, probably already lost sight of him, and he jumps right into glass making noise so the gunner CATCHES him and so he fires but not a single shot landed and he just miraculously gets out fine. This kind of crap forcing drama action BS done for the sake of a crime flick. Just like how subsequently, the MC opts going on a date knowing there's danger than first go for police protection, completely stupid with the so called terrible romance. Those 2 should've been dead, dunno why those idiot crooks are letting them live each time they should be killed. The great escape with the good cop was garbage as well and MC was even more retarded jumping out to shout and making a scene like a stupid kid MC where a single enemy shot won't hit him of course. Probably the most detestable MC I've seen in a 80/90's OVA. Cheap simple action left in this worthless junk of entertainment 3/10

Quite possibly the most average 80s action flick ever, but this sort of thing is so rare in anime that it's competence immediately made it the best of its kind. It had an ending. It made sense, mostly. The premise wasn't completely ridiculous. I wish I could say these things are expected in a movie but after many years of watching great anime spoiled by crap endings or plots that go totally off the rails I have learned to treasure them and to take things as they come, especially these 80s OVAs. I did enjoy how it was sort of self aware that it was a generic B grade action movie.

I love how oddly cosy the whole thing was as well. No creepy fanservice or gratuitous nudity, lovable characters with a cute 60s-style romance and the whole meta aspect.

It would have been almost plausible if they hadn't got the crims to beat Ryo within an inch of his life before the big action finale. We just saw he was barely able to move and the next he was going all chop-socky on their assets like it was nothing. That just left the whole thing a bit too unbelievable imo.

Bit harsh, he avoided most of the stupid movie protagonist mistakes: He called the police at the first sign of trouble, He made a beeline for a busy road and tried to stay in populated areas for the duration of the movie. His date in a crowded restaurant wasn't such a bad idea given that the assassin stopped chasing him once he saw those cops. Unless you want to send a message, murder in Broad daylight in full view of several dozen witnesses isn't the best way to take out a target.

I agree with a lot in this post. The plot was unremarkable, but it's nice how functional it was. The few dumb moments didn't take away from it.

The most relaxing action OVA I've ever watched.

Urban Square knows exactly what it is, and doesn't try to be anything else, and for that, I have mad respect for it. The characters are fun, likeable, and cool for the sake of being cool; nothing particularly deep, the story isn't trying to say anything grandeous and not every story needs to.

Where this OVA shines is in it's gorgeous art, S E X Y music and perfect pacing. It's an experience more than a piece for critical analysis; the plot simply acts as an excuse to put characters in these aesthetically pleasing locations, where almost every shot is desktop wallpaper worthy, and to facilitate this romantic vision of an era gone by. Solid animation, two nice chase scenes and a handful of fun actions scenes are the cherry on top of this short, sweet, vibe-driven show that doesn't outstay it's welcome.

Definitely worth watching.

I liked the OVA, had a great laugh from Shigeru Chiba's martial arts thief performance. Good animation, jazzy sound, what else do you need from a short 80's OVA? It was fun. Villains should stop shooting at the ground under the MCs legs if they want to achieve anything though, haha.

P.S. Was it Norio Wakamoto inside the TV for like 2 seconds? :D

I enjoyed watching it, it gives a relaxed mood with the Jazz sound and the 80s art-style, it had many illogical scenes ( all animes have LOL), but it was tolerable and the best thing it has a nice ending, I really liked the MC, he had many hilarious scenes, I also loved the detective gear-up scene,
I'll give it an 8, because it's rarely you see an OVA with a nice pace and a good ending that gives nice vibes while watching it.
( In the cinema they watched Jaws III : Friday the 13th, what a crossover of a movie that was )
