Why? Because 95% of anime sucks. It's either corny romcom harem type shows, or so-called "shounen". Yeah, I'm talking about the shows that make the LEGO television series look mature. Naruto, Bleach, One Piece etc are all pieces of japanese flavoured crap with stupid zig-zag lighnting lines for when the artists where to lazy to draw the action, and they would be well suited to be aired in a 3 year olds nursery.
/rant over.
Now, yesterday I had a friend who visiting whom I discovered hadn't watched the masterpiece Boku dake ga Inai Machi, otherwise known as ERASED, so I promptly sat down and watched the whole series for the second time. We started at about midnight, and needless to say I didn't get any sleep that night. I don't regret it, even though I feel like passing out now, but hey sacrifices need to be made. And boy, was it worth it.
You, see now I'm depressed. Like, seriously so. In all my life there is pretty much no other work of entertainment that has touched me like rewatching ERASED has. I got something in my eye at the end of the final book of Asimov's Foundation prequel series, I felt like my world had gotten 2x bigger when I finished reading LotR in 18 hours straight. After I finished watching Game of Thrones S6 I went and bought the whole book series and read it twice, straight through. Plato's Republic got me to question the very meaning of democracy and I still quote it to this day. And yet, no book, film, video game or anime has made me properly cry before. Not even ERASED on the first watch, but somehow this time it did. Whether it will have as much of an impact as the above listed I have no idea, but right now I need to fill the hole that it has left.
TL;DR for the above section: Help me. I'm depressed because I finished watching ERASED for the second time and it was f**king amazing. I intend to buy posters, I've changed my desktop wallpaper, my ringtone is now the ERASED opening theme and I'm going to read the manga when I work up the courage to go outside again.
So, is there any anime, tv show, film, book or other form of entertainment that even comes close to ERASED's brilliance. The characters, the intricate plot, the mystery and the plain old fun of it make me want to cry again.
Please help me.
