Where are their tails?

Where are Trunks's, Goten's, Pan's and Bra's tail? Were they not born with it like Gohan? Were the tails ripped off when they were babies? The anime doesn't mention this at all..

Also, why hasn't Vegeta's, Gohan's and Goku's tail grown back? They said that it would in time..

I might be wrong *or not*, but just like in Launch's case, I heard Akira totally forgot about the tails. When he was asked why the tails don't appear anymore, or what happened to Launch, he answered something like he was not good at details and tends to forget some things. So yeah, funny...
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
