Looking for mecha anime where MC is able to use an "ancient" mecha that is superior to the current age ones.
| Looking for an anime where the main character (maybe one that is typically inferior) is able to use an ancient mecha that the current age ones are simply based off of, and only the MC has been able to activate it. Also ok if the Mecha isn't necessarily ancient but still outclasses the other mechas (OP MC) Examples of what I'm looking for: Break Blade Kuromukuro Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet |

| So Ra No Wo To If you're looking for a lot of combat action you're not going to get any until bits of the last episode and a few snippets from flashbacks (ep. 7 iirc). This is 95% SoL/moe and 5% action but it fits your request with regard to "superior ancient mecha". It's a post-apocalyptic setting and the mc's mech is only one of about 10 left in the world. Tech has regressed to the point where very few of the advanced machines can even be maintained. Even radio tech is lost which is why they need trumpeters to relay orders to the troops. Their own mech is in the garage (actually an old school gymnasium but they don't know that) in pieces and even their genius mechanic is having difficulty getting replacement parts (some of which have to be hand-made by trial and error which is the subject of episode 4 actually). |

| Sounds sort of like the plot of Tengen Toppa Gurenn Lagann... The show shares the same director as 'Kill La Kill' and same sort of style (you rated this show 10/10, so I assume you'll like his other work) MC is a frightened and otherwise weak young lad that unearths a small but ancient mech which dates back to a forgotten war, which only he seems to be able to activate that appears to have some primitive form of sentience. Mech is literally 1/10th the size of its opponents but possesses technology and versatility that allows the MC to overpower his opponents. Not gonna say much more for fear of spoiling, but yeah.. Go watch it, it meets all your criteria. |

| Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari This fits your description very well, Just keep in mind it is Harem/Ecchi, but it's still very good in my opinion. The MC is OP and is able to use a special Mecha. |
| Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans fits, sort of. The MC is the only one who can use a Gundam to the full potential until pretty late in the show, and Gundams themselves are old, forgotten weapons in that show. |
