When people complain about "unfittingly cartoony art", do they mean ALL of it or just the overtly silly moments

http://tezukainenglish.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/adolf-manga01.jpg This is cartoonier than most manga, sure, but it's still got an obviously serious tone

I can't tell if people just hate Tezuka's art style in general or if they're bothered by the way he injected comedy into serious works

I think most people just find the art style ugly.

It looks great, the goofy art style just add a little bit of weirdness to that very realistic and dramatic story, wouldn't want it another way.

I know this is late but
this is literally the best kind of art for a gritty series like this

i love the juxtaposition of the simple stylish cartoonish feel to most of tezuma's works.
with his darker themes.

the contrast is very good.

its like those 1920s war cartoons. where they would show implied brutal violence and oppression but with the childish theme and humor.

its like listening to something like pumped up kicks where the lyrics are dark but the sound sounds very bright

I'm usually not the one who complains about "unfitting humor" but here it bothered me throughout the four volumes. The fact that it is intentional makes it even more annoying. It gave the manga a childish tone which doesn't work in a war story who wants (and I think, fails) to be poignant and politically engaged.

The art is amazing. That’s just Tezuka’s way of drawing and it perfect balances the heavy themes of the manga (just like with Ayako).

People are just not used to Tezuka's style.
You all need to watch Nami.

Like many of Tezuka's seinen manga, Adolf is fairly tame. Buddha is goofier and far more popular.

Some may find the blending of serious and comedic to be off-putting. I think it's a perfect blend that balances the two states in great harmony.
