I wouldn't have complain much if it would've rather tag just as an military movie but when you sell out as a romance then we bound to expect something more.
He risked his life and was almost on the verge of dying but still he kept on carrying the mission but for what?neither he was able to kept the reward nor the one he had feelings for to himself.

It was ultimately a matter of choice. As much as I’d like him to run away with the princess, there’d be just more complications up ahead. Also, there’d be just people complaining about such an alternate ending to be “so cliche and immature”, anyways :P

Yes, it’s Aldnoah Zero before Aldnoah Zero actually existed, but I thought the positives were enough to outweigh the negatives of that conclusion.

The ending may seem too awful, but looking at it another way...

Fana has seen how bad war is, and how bad discrimination is. And as the wife of the Emperor, she is in a postion to do something about it (and indeed, the ending implies she started doing something about it).

If she had run away with Charles, well...it would have been the ending we wanted, but not the ending that world needed.

1.The princess won't be able to change things, and war would have continued.
2.Let's say that the big bad powers that be won't leave the copule alone.

The moral of the story anyway is, sometimes, sacrifices have to be made for things to get better. Unfortunately the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (to quote a famous fictional character).

That's effing life.

Well ending is sad although is to be expected, just by looking at at the situations of lives of people based by ranks. But, I gotta say, the story is one of the shows that depicts how life is
(for those who are like in situation of Charles especially the commoners) in the old timesespecially in Europe in the Medievial times, or even in the modern era there is still some around the world.

Why only care about the pilot feels, how about the princess?

When she young she lives alone in isolation, her father dead, she is going to marry another man she doesn't like, she must ignore her feeling to the pilot, and then she must sacrifice the rest of her life for peace.

The pilot just goes and free while the princess must hold all the weight by herself.

I think the Princess is the one who suffers most. She's kind, I feel sorry for her.

Actually somewhat the anime Toaru Hikushi e no Koiuta is a continuation of this movie. If you wanna know what happened to both Charles and Fana, you should watch that anime though Fana was only mentioned and for Charles,

That how real heros are! they never go for the glory.

The guy almost die from this mission. In the end when they say he was removed from history the reason behind it is explain by him. They need to get the moral up and we they can't have rumors go around.

He still got his reward and decided to drop a bit of it to give the princess his last beautiful dance with it. If you see closely after he dropped a some gold he still had more than half of the bag so he can still be living a peaceful life, just away from the planes.

It’s obvious this was gonna be the ending. Like what were you expecting? A lowlife running away with the future queen? That’s as unrealistic as it can get. They wouldn’t last a day. They weren’t going for a lovey dovey ending. It’s a forbidden love. In the end they both accepted reality and acted maturely. The ending is perfect tbh.

And as for him being erased from history... again he’s what they consider a lowlife. In no way they’re gonna include such a man in the history books, especially since he saved the Queen. And the queen herself can’t do anything about it either, since she’s not more powerful than the King and I doubt the King would want that story to be recorded. It’s the most realistic scenario you can get. The winners can rewrite history as they’ve always done irl as well.

I was wondering the reason the rate is so low while watching the movie. UNTIL THE VERY END. So, they give you a final with literally 5 lines of text. WHAT THE FAITH DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR MIND TO DO THAT?

@addiction08

Bases on the spoiler (thanks BTW), I think I'll check out the anime now.

Although I appreciated the reality of the ending, I wasn't disappointed until reading note at the end of the movie.

When Charles said he felt free while flying; the skies were the only place where prejudice did not exist for him. It was clearly obvious why he felt that way so I wanted him to keep flying. Running off with the princess would have devastated him, I'm sure.

Now, if, as the spoiler suggests, if that is true, then I feel much better for his character. A nameless hero is better than an erased presence.

It wasnt that sad jeeeez
He is just a merc at the end of the day.

Sure, he should have ran away with Fana in the end...but who wants such a simple bittersweet ending like that?
"You can't spell slaughter without laughter".
