| I didn't personally grow up anywhere near a school that enforced uniforms so my only knowledge on the subject is from anime and talking to people online. I've heard somewhere that skirts for uniforms will be offered in several different lengths since different girls will have different tastes, but I can't find any information about this online. In anime often the girls will wear what appear to be different length skirts, but supposedly there's a problem with girls folding their skirts to make them look shorter so this wouldn't need to be the case. There are some anime like Anne Happy and Saki where most girls have short skirts and a few have longer ones and I'm not sure exactly how this is supposed to reflect real life. I've also seen some anime like Railgun and Aikatsu! where characters either complain about or work around the fact that the skirt in their uniform is so short, meaning that at least in some cases it is only one size (I don't think the one size would be quite that short in real life, though). Did you have to wear a uniform to school or have a strict dress code? If so, did any of the students try to work around it? Were there multiple versions of the uniform for each gender? Do you think shorter skirts are more attractive? How accurate/inaccurate do you think anime uniforms are? Given the title you can also feel free to talk about magic skirts and the like. | It really depends on the school. Some might have one fixed length, while others would say that it has to be within a certain range of lengths, either in actual figures or compared to certain parts of the leg of the person in question. This could be in the form of a "minimum length" which would potentially allow for both short and long skirts to be worn. |

| from my expeirence, coming from a school that enforces uniforms. most schools allow you to tailor your own skirt (aslong as it is the same colour as the school colour uniform). the school-made uniforms were knee length skirts, i didnt like them, so i went and tailored my own skirt , it matched the schools uniform colour so it's okay to use. the shirt remains the same for the most part since shirts are the easiest to be adjusted in only size, though i preferred mines long sleeved so i went and tailored it to be longer till my hands cuz i preferred it that way. in other words, YES you can have differnet type of uniform styles as long as it matches the schools uniform colour code and has its logo, this isnt something only in the anime. |

| I never went to a school with uniforms, but I knew people who did and they only had one option for skirt length. Although I remmener hearing that people pulling their skirts up to make them shorter was a problem at some schools. Idk if that's still true though. |

I had to wear this ugly mofo in primary school: And the worst part is that the guys didn't have to wear any uniform. And didn't have to wear another uniform until senior highschool when my school went "We need uniform right naw!!" because all the other kool, elite schools had one and we didn't. I think most students tried to work a way around it and only bought the blazer (full uniform was blazer, vest, pants fo guys and skirts for girls, which were all expensive as fuck). Some of them didn't even buy that and a year after that it became mandatory to wear them and teachers would ask the lesson only the kids without a uniform (stupid I know) and we also couldn't enter the schoolgrounds before classes without our uniform and tag (or whatever it's called) so my last year of highscool was a constant battle to keep my uniform from being stollen. Also you couldn't wash that shit very often, the fabric was shoddy and would discolour, it was just awful, I sold my uniform as soon as I finished highschool. |

| Taiwanese schoolgirl skirts are a bit shorter than Japanese ones and it often seems that many anime adopt a similar style to those. Some schoolgirl outfits in both real life and anime are a full dress as well. |

| I had to wear school uniform for 10 years from primary to secondary school. They were plain, boring, and shapeless. The dress code was strict. Skirts have to be knee-length and that was just one of the many things teachers look out for during random spot checks. It was common for girls to get their skirts altered or roll it up at the waist to make it shorter. I read this article on the various Japanese school uniforms and accessories before (link) They are all so cute, I'm envious >_> |
