My favorite manga ever is Inu Yasha, tho Dragon Knights and Vampire Game are very close.

I'm currently reading Dragon Knights thanks to a friend that found it online for me.

I think Vampire Game and Dragon Knights should be animated. I would love to see those.

I think Inu Yasha and Boys Over Flowers should not have been animated. I really didn't like the way they were done.

Been reading Hourou Musuko which deals with the topic of gender bender in a more subtle and serious way than most similar series. There's drama but it never gets melodramatic, there's romance but it never made me roll my eyes or want to slap the people involved and there's a nice sense of humour but the characters are never ridiculed.

All in all a very enjoyable read and i'm really looking forward to the anime.

I'm not really into ecchi...or drama for that matter (unless it's believable and comes in small doeses). What i like about Hourou Musuko is in fact that it actually avoids those clichés. The only other series i've read which manages this equally well is I.S..

looks like a really cool seinen title... just ordered volume 1 for like $7, and volume 2 is due to release in November :-)

Just finished the first volume of Saturn Apartments. Very nice slice of life without unnecessary drama, just the way i like it. Thanks for the rec, J_Guide!:)

I also really enjoyed Coffee Time and Undercurrent, both by Tetsuya Toyoda and a very calm and pleasant read.

Just finished Banana Fish, and OMG what a ride!

It was an older manga that someone recommended to me. Was not sure what to think after reading the synopsis, but I'm so glad I did it. The story is fast-paced and action packed. It can get a wee bit gory at times, so be careful if you don't like that.

But this is a manga that deals with the mafia, drug use, sex shops, child pornography, government conspiracies. It was one of the best I've read (and is now on my list of favorites).

If you're interested, you can download it here.

this is on my list to buy once I get through some of what's been piling up around here.

now reading Gunsmith Cats, which is kind of a classic (right?) but I don't know if it's really for me or not. I've collected all 4 omnibus editions -- found some used copies and bought the others new at Borders with coupons -- so I really hope that it turns out to be.

I'm not reading a lot off shoujo but recently i've enjoyed Aki's works quite a bit. Utahime and Olimpos are both relatively short series and both completely scanlated, so check them out if you like pretty art and rather unusual shoujo.

I just started Banana Fish the other day and can hardly stop reading... it's pretty intense and keeps me on the edge of my seat. Don't remember the last time I had the patience to read through so many volumes at one seating.... the art is old and reminds me of Akira, but it doesn't bother me after a while :x

(what does annoy me is Viz changing the manga to be left to right, then changing it back to right to left for one volume, then change it back again to left -> right and then after a couple more volumes changes to right -> left... the inconsistency is worse than doing this shit in the first place!!! until I get used to the change (after realizing I've read a couple of pages wrong) they change it again. GRRRR)

P.S MAL bugs are getting annoying again -__-

*siiiiigh* I feel like a masochist! I started reading The Summit even though I knew it's been on hiatus for at least 2 years.... I thought since it's shounen-ai and a manhwa, I might feel like dropping it anyway because truth be told, most of the genre is kinda crappy :/

BUT I TOTALLY UNDERESTIMATED IT... got sucked in already in the first volume and now I lament that I only have one volume left to read T__T (there are 5 scanlated, the scanlations then skip over vol 6 so I won't read vol 7 :/ And it's korean so I can't bother with raws..)

Anyway, the manhwa is so good with pretty bruised boys, violence, angst, interesting plot (though I'm not so sure what's going on yet...) mostly wondering about the guys' past... and I fear it will end tragically - that is if the author ever picks it up again -__-;

I'm gonna leave vol 5 for tomorrow ;o;

I always wondered whether or not I should pick up The Summit or not. Knowing that it's been on hiatus for 2 years, I probably won't. I hate getting sucked into a manga and not have it finished.

I'm waiting on the last 4 scanlated chapter of When a Man Loves a Man.

I picked up Sex Pistols and really enjoyed this cute little piece of fluff. I recently found out, after having gotten to the last volume, that it is on hiatus as well. *sob*

Coincidentally i've just started checking out manwha and manhua myself, though not of the BL genre.

I can heartily recommend Saver which features one of the coolest heroines ever. But you need to get past the first volume which is full of really awful melodrama and bad shoujo clichés. If someone who's taste i trust hadn't assured me that it gets better, i'd dropped it right there...but well, it really gets A LOT better! Now i'm eagerly waiting for the final volume to be scanlated...

I'm also reading 1/2 Prince which has been pretty funny so far.

*sigh* I usually only d/l complete manga when it comes to BL, unless I d/l it without knowing the status.... I don't know what got to me to read it anyway, but I loved it so much I now feel conflicted like 'is it better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all' lol it's really good T__T (maybe because it has all my favorite elements in a BL story + fave types of seme/uke ^^)

Sex Pistols I couldn't get into it and dropped very early on... I don't even like cat ears so turning into animals and stuff is really not for me, although I have that ova and waiting for the next part before I'll watch it... but I feel your pain about the hiatus!!!! one of my favorite manga, Wild Adapter is also on hiatus for ages T__T (and recently Saiyuki too, due to the mangaka's illness :/)

I think MAL should add 'hiatus' or 'dropped' to the manga status, even X is still listed as 'publishing'. :/ (I joined a group on here just because it lists all the hiatus and discontinued manga)

Finally got around to reading Mai, The Psychic Girl. I'm pretty sure I read bits and pieces when I was a kid (it was published by Eclipse Comics at one time AFAIK), but being able to sit and read it was quite enjoyable. The characters are fairly well developed, the art is excellent having a level of realism that was rare for its western and manga contemporaries, and the story was pretty solid. In some ways it kind of reminds me of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun meets Stephen King's Carrie. Of course I have a twisted brain, but I would love to read more like this. Plus it looked great on my Kindle.

Just finished reading Parasyte, a fantastic horror manga with 10 volumes that I could hardly put down (or should I say shut the computer? ;))... it's not that original, but it was really well crafted... (it's a french to english translation and sometimes dubious... firstly, for 8 volumes I thought the main character's name was Shinji and it turns out he's actually called Shinichi... -_-;)

Before that manga, I caught up to the latest chapter of Historie by the same author. I was searching for historical manga set in ancient Rome and he wrote Heureka which was close. This one is set in ancient greece... and quite addictive! I'm such a history dork so I was enjoying it immensely.. I wish it came out more often now that I'm up to date :( The only thing I didn't like was

I really love this mangaka's sketchy violent and gory style, I didn't know I had this side in me o_o

my plan for tomorrow is starting on Vinland Saga... I'm on a historical roll, no pun intended...

Solanin doesn't attract me at all, but I read another manga from that author which was nice (and confusing).

Most of Asano Inio's works are a bit confusing, Solanin is probably the most straightforward.

LOL! I think everyone feels the urge to delouse Thorfinn! Askeladd is one of the most awesome oyaji ever, i love him to pieces. I agree, the manga doesn't gloss over the atrocities people do to each other but it also doesn't simply divide the world in black and white. The mangaka is a true genius at characterization.

It was an amazing prologue... right up my alley. They should do an anime from that *__* (then again probably not if it's going to be a crap adaptation with lots of censoring and fake or invisible blood, with Japan being americanized and all -__-) If you know of anything else like that, please send my way!

As for Thorfinn... I guess so too, and I want Thorfinn the warrior back badly D: It's been a while since I followed a monthly manga (FMA).. at least it's not as agonizing as bi-monthly was (Wild Adapter)... or worse D:

who am I kidding it's agonizing enough T_T

He just looks so weird (head too big for the body, eyes too big/childlike for the face) and so lifeless - tho this part makes sense ^^ I liked him as a dumb hotheaded brat, although he still doesn't have a main character aura, if you know what I mean? (then again I usually tend to like side characters better..)

Well, the prologue was all about Askeladd (and the other cool old men) for me. Thorfinn was all killing and revenge and no brains, not very appealing. He's getting more interesting now that he turned into Kurt Cobain starts to develop emotions and opening up to other people.

Ahh, he used to look just my type (well, one of them lol), although, yes, he wasn't nearly as interesting as Askeladd and Thorkell and even the prince... It took 3 whole days, but I finally finished 20th Century Boys and 21st Century Boys. In one word: masterpiece.

If you thought FMA was complex, this one is even more mind-boggling. and though there are still a few things that bother me and I was all eh?! at the end, I gave this manga 10... it was just an epic sci-fi tale and it's even more mind boggling to think the author started working on this while wrapping up Monster, he really has a way of writing a good mystery laced with suspence and mixed up concepts of good and evil. I'm still shaken up and also it's great to feel so satisfied at the end of a long manga, I'm happy I didn't have to follow it monthly >_>

tl;dr version:
10/10 for both (it should've been one manga anyway)

I just finished the best BL manga I've ever read since Totally Captivated called New York New York. Short (17 chapters) but one of the most realistic (or at least what I would think would be realistic) manga portraying the gay lifestyle that I have ever seen. To quote one of the reviewers"

"It makes a strong connection to the reader and really makes you feel compassion for their struggles. It covers cheating, rape, death, HIV/AIDS, coming out, and so much more."

I would definitely list this as a "must read" for you BL fans out there. There are no explicit sex scenes. This is all about emotion. I gave it a 9. I really want to add this to my "Favorite Manga" list, but not sure which one would have to go off to make room for it.
