| Its unnecessary waste of bandwith. Just to give a explanation of why: Not long time ago, the imges in my sig (25kb) where hosted in a provider of mine. Every time someone entered my profile/topic with at least 1 post of mine, it would have to charge a copy of that same picture to the cache of your browser. i thought it would be okay to my server's bandwith, since most of my posts are in the SPAM forum, which probablly hs only 3/10 of MAL's total users. It didn't last 2 weeks and my bandwith consumption raised 4gb. Yes, 4 gb! Now think of it. If emoticons are inserted, its certain that 80% or more will use those damn bandwith eaters willing or not. Not to mention it won't be restricted to the SPAM area. Which means, bandwith consumption would skyrocket. Not long ago MAL had serious problems with bandwith. DO you really think it would be possible to add such thing in this site? Are you willing to pay extra bandwith 4 MAL? I don`t think so. Not to mention, emoticons sux. It really pisses me off when i write in other foruns things like ...7) 8) 9)... and the bb code changes to ...7) *Emoticon* 9).... |

You need to see that most of those posts/topic/what ever are made by the same group of people. I myself have 96% of my posts in the spam sub-forums. Thats why there are alot of posts and topics. Most of the MAL community doesn't use the spam section. (And most of them don't know what they are missing XD) |

My Horo sig is only 14kb (the four parts I host) and it's used over 400Mb in the past two weeks alone. That's only linked here on MAL and on AS. Include macro images and other stuff for 'name the anime' etc and traffic builds up fast with thousands of users. My lil site has used over five gig this month, and unfortunately most of that is direct linked images, not people browsing the site itself. :( |

I agree, it's really annoying to write a message on a forum and it gets messed up with emoticons in the middle. Plus, it'd be one thing if people would use emoticons in moderation, but the majority of people who I've seen use them completely abuse them by spamming the forums with a bunch of emoticons. There's nothing I hate more than to see a thread full of nothing but emoticons. |
