I ve seen 15 episodes so far and it looks like a huge cooking competition. Its getting boring and repetitive. When do you actually learn something like during classes and not only showing off your skills?

It'd be more boring to watch them learn how to cook. Anyways they're in high school now so they're honing their skills and the only way they can do that is by competition. They actually learn quite a bit through the training camp....

Why would you go to some elite culinary school where only 10% of the students graduate to learn how to cook?

They do learn to cook, Soma (& co) got better at cooking. You don't get to see them "learn" to cook, you cook to get better by practicing and earning experience.. which we have seen from the very start of the series.

tldr; they indirectly learned to cook.

idk why i took this seriously

elite culinary. doesn't that mean you have to be quite good before applying. so they get better while they battle.

I'm only on the first episode and I'm pretty sure that the people that created this have not a clue what a professional kitchen is like or what skills a chef needs. They start out the series with everyone holding their knife with a forefinger on the back of the blade, supposedly to guide it.

Well, in the real world, that is how you tell that someone has never had any real training. If you see someone on a tv food show using that technique, I can guarantee you they never spent more than 15 minutes in a cooking school or worked in professional kitchen.

Bad to start a series with everyone looking like an amateur.

The only way someone can hone their skills is by competition? No. People can also hone their skills from learning.

They obviously learn off-screen.
