| YATTA!!!!!!!! I actually yelled that when he revealed his winning hand! :D This was fucking amazing! My boy Kaiji, finally winning again! I feel so happy for him! And of course relieved that it's over... for now. He deserves it, man. I must say, I was sceptical at first whether I'd like an entire arc based on Mahjong, but eventually I was completely engrossed in it. I think this arc might even get a 10/10 from me! I guess I will raise the previous one with the dice game and the Bog to 10/10 as well. In hindsight, the agonizing cliffhangers and drawn out scenes were really fun. It's just the suffering in the moment that was almost unbearable. |

| One thing I really love about the Kaiji franchise is how it manages to subvert expectations. By having the protagonist both win and lose over the course of the series, the reader can never be sure of the actual outcome and that's what makes the gambles so exciting!! The last few chapters leading up to this made it seem like Kaiji was about to lose and thanks to the way the series is written, it would be an entirely believable result – there's no plot armor to lean on. I did consider the possibility of Kaiji having actually taken the dora single wait, but I wasn't sure how, and since I was already lulled into thinking he will lose, the fact that he got the ron in the end was an actual thrill! This is literally the ideal high-stakes writing and just the fact it's so well done makes me all exhilarated, haha. |
