| This episode justified all of Shizuru's character for me. The way she is, it's absolutely understandable. |
| Re-watching: After that episode with the little pervert guide following that guy around, I thought Shizuru was written to be too mysterious to get a gauge on how she actually felt. Her expressions didn't help much either. But this episode showed these things from her perspective in a way that they haven't really touched on in much detail. Unlike Mizuki whose very open, both in the show and from our understanding of her character as the audience, Shizuru is much different. Is there a sort of callousness in not doing something about what you can see? It's a question this show brings to my mind quite often. But obviously for Shizuru this is a lifelong issue that she needs to learn to deal with on her own and the show does a great job of imparting that. The way she gets 'lost' in the fire, probably guilt, only to be awoken with the light is something this anime is really good at portraying. But also that seeing things isn't always doom and gloom. Life is about finding others whom you can open up to and hopefully Shizuru can find someone to talk to. Dialogue, I think, being the main theme of this series. |
