So far, I've seen only 8 episodes of it, but its one of the very few series, where when watching the sub for the first couple episodes, its not all that humorous, then I watched the same episodes dubbed and it was much more amusing. I think that the humor in Desert Punk is more of a Western sense of humor, then it is eastern.

Anybody else notice?

It's just because things are always funnier when you see them in english. I loved the dub too.

Not always, some jokes are lost in translation loosing the quality of the joke. But for perversion...American English works well.

yes i agree with Dub, like if you watched black lagoon sub side by side with dub it would look like subbed was censor with all the faul langauge they cut out. Same goes here a lot gets some how lost in translation. And hey dont look at me that way normally i would bit heads off if someone said to watch something in dub. But some time dub is better and i have example to prove it this series and the one i just gave u is just a couple.

I unfortunately have to agree. Normally Dub's are much like taking a chainsaw to the back of my ear. I hate what English voices/voice actors do to characters in anime, especially the constantly childish overtones on essentially young adults. If I found a real teenager or young adult talking the way some of the dubbers do I couldn't help but think they are mildly retarded. However in Desert Punk I often found myself bouncing back and fourth mid show trying to figure out which I preferred sub or dub.

Desert punk was one of those rare times when the Dub was actually of high quality and worth listening too. They got the emotions across correctly and didn't sound like failing actors. I had to have listened to about 8 episodes if not a bit more of desert punk in dub.

In the end however Sub edged the Dub by just enough for me to say use it. My prejudices might have gotten the better of me on this one. I think I might just go check out black lagoon dub... I've only ever watched it in subs, it never occured to me to watch it dubbed.

Still for every Good example of dubbing I could easily point out a dozen bad ones. This just doesn't happen to be one of them.

I'm gonna have to go against the grain here, and tell you that I really don't care for the dubbing on this show.

Like many of you, I found myself switching back and forth between the sub and the dub because, yes, the dubbing is quite different in that there is very drastic interpretation going on. They definitely put it in an American context, and I'm not talking censorship either - if anything, the English dub has far more crude and offensive cursing/comments than the subtitles.

However, it only took me about 2 episodes to know for certain the I preferred the subtitles to the English dub.

Why? Well, it's pretty simple. The voice actors are over-acting to an EXTREME. I'm shocked that throughout the dubbing process no-one once thought to say "try being less melodramatic?!" To make matters worse, I compared the dub to the sub, and they are drastically changing the dialogue because they think we won't understand. Things like changing "your mother has an outy" to "your mother is a whore". Alright, I understand that some people might not immediately understand that "your mother has an outy" is an insult, but we have the characters' reactions to use as context. Also, the Japanese do a wonderful job at making expressive sounds, whereas the english dub is literally at the level of using "wrack'em frack'em" to show frustration.

Basically, I feel that the English dubbed characters feel completely different from their Japanese speaking (subbed) counterparts. It's like the show got put through the strainer known as Hollywood. I'm not saying I haven't heard worse dubbing, but this one is up there.

Seriously, if you've never watched this show subbed, give it a try. It's 1,000 times better.

Found a preference for the dubs myself as well. I was actually shocked to come to the conclusion that I preferred Kenny Green over Norio Wakamoto for Rain Spider. I can't help but feel that Kenny Green's list of work doesn't match up with the quality of his performance for Desert Punk. Rain Spider was easily the most hilarious character because of how fitting Green's acting was. Desert Punk is yet another in a growing list of animes with great dubs.

I agree that the dubbed was much funnier. The expressiveness of the voices translated much better in English.

I hate dubs, I don't listen to dubs, I wish the usual palette of 10-15 American voice actors would die in a fire.

However, desert punk is one of the 5 shows (out of 500) that I actually prefer with dub and I find the dub to be superior.

Honestly, this is definitely my favorite dub. At least the voices sound fit for the characters. I haven't seen the subs, and I don't really plan to as I have the anime (courtesy of the extinct Hollywood Video) all dubbed. In my opinion Desert Punk has some of the best lines in anime (episode 1 for example). Plus I have plenty of anime that probably won't ever be dubbed to watch, so I have those to satisfy my "subbed needs".
I have only come across one sub that I couldn't handle and that was Heavens Lost Property. Otherwise the few dubs (10 or so?) that I've seen are alright. Although I was pretty disappointed Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica's dub. I can't count how many times I've watched Desert Punk.
