Episode 76.

But, imo, you are making a mistake by continuing from that exact point in the 2011 series. You'll have to deal with different voices and music, as well as a altered art style and this transition could affect your enjoyment.

I know it's not the best idea, I just don't feel investing that time in a story I already know while having 1000 eps in the "plan to watch" list. :o

Why didn't you just go with the 2011 series in the first place, if you don't mind my asking?

Well, in any event I hope you don't judge the voice work too harshly. There was some amazing work in this arc, especially from Gon's VA.

edit: Also, if Gon and Killua feel "different" in this version just know that some of the stuff you saw in the 99 anime like the airship scenes Killua had with that girl didn't happen in this version of the story. That kind of stuff is another reason why I don't think it's a good idea to just jump into the 2011 series at this point.

Yea what others said. I also would suggest watching from the beginning but I can understand not wanting to do so. Just watch episode 31, 32 of 2011 there is a fight Hisoka vs Kastro which wasn't animated in 99, it's amazing.

There are several reasons as to why. In my opinion, the Hunter Exam and Yorknew City arcs are superior in the '99 version.
Let's take the Yorknew arc, in the 2011 version the art style is a lot brighter and friendlier. In the '99 version it's dark and it feels more mature.

That's only what I think, of course. I don't know his reason(s), this is just what people generally think. Including me.

Okay, for the sake of not turning this into a 1999 vs. 2011 argument I'll agree with you. But, I still think it's a bad idea to go from the 1999 version to the 2011 version for the reasons I stated above.

Imho I didn't find the '99 version any darker in the Yorknew arc than in the remake, the only change I saw was brigher colors in the remake, but that didn't make the arc itself any less dark.

And I also think both the Yorknew arc and the hunter exam was executed better in the 2011 version. Honestly, I was bored throughout the whole '99 adaption and wanted to drop it, but the remake got me hooked from the get-go. But then again, this is just me. :)

I was in the same position. I eventually dropped the '99 version because of the time spent on the Hunter Exam which was a weak arc imo. I thought why not watch the remake which would be more complete instead of slugging through the old one.

The OST was also darker in the '99 version. Which added to the suspense and eerie feeling of the Yorknew arc.

But we shouldn't make this into a debate. We all have our own opinions. Let's just leave it at that.

If there's anything that's better in the 2011 version compared to the 99, it's Yorkshin. Madhouse did an absolutely great job on it. There were a couple of slight downsides of it, but overall is was one hell of a ride.

If OP wants to watch something from the 2011 version before CA, it's Yorkshin.

Yes, I agree. I just wanted to state my opinion so the OP could have a look at different opinions. :p

I watched the Nippon Animation adaptations a long time before the 2011 was announced.
Besides this, is there any major changes in the story in comparison with 99 ?

Also the 1999 anime changed a couple things in whale island concerning Gon's Mom and Mito. They're not related nor is his mom confirmed dead although this doesn't effect the plot much.

The story is pretty much the same but some character interactions were done differently. I recommend watching the 2011 from the beginning just to see how Madhouse approached the story but it's up to you.
