It was about ten years ago, now he shuts up, my room's full of manga and action figure and I kill whoever tries oi touch them :PPPP

My mom constantly keeps saying; 'Oh! Why is that cartoon so SAD? It's bad for children to watch sad things! Tsktsktsk, I should really--Ohmygod, is that BLOOD?!'

While my dad is more like....: 'Why the hell are you watching cartoons in North Polish?' (is that even a language?O_O)

My parents don't care what I do for entertainment as long as I stay out of trouble/illegal things.

My parents hardly know anything about what I do so....they just seem to think 'Your Japanese stuff' when refering to anime.
One time I was watching Death Note and my mom asked what was I watching and I told her and she said 'Hmm...that sounds kinda sinister...'

My mother allows me to watch 3d softcore porn. So, she's fine with my interest of anime. I've actually made her watch few episodes too, she thought it was ok but found it hard to read the subs while trying to see the action and the facial expressions.

my mom is always saying this to me:
"stop watching anime. you're old enough."
geez~ she really think that cartoons and anime are the same.

To tell you the truth, I don't think they care much. I've been doing it long enough for them to notice but they haven't reacted so far.

Compared to how much they hated my gaming in teenage days, I think they'd be pretty okay with it; they do know I'm into japanese culture.

Mine don't actually know. I mean, they've seen me watch Pokémon and Tokyo Mew Mew on TV, but other than that, they have no idea. I don't own any posters or DVDs or whatever.
I don't think they'd care though.
They saw me reading death note manga when I was on holiday, but it didn't bother them

My Mother
*sitting next to me on the couch while I watch anime in dub, completely oblivious to the violence that is two gundams kicking the crap out of each other and people are dying on screen.*
anime character: OH DAMN!
my mom: did they just swear!? I thought this was for children!
me: nope.

She freaked out one time when the characters said "shite", which means "do" because she thought the characters were trying to swear in English. Never mind the fact that we're allowed to use shit in front of my parents.
Yet she didn't flinch when she walked on a scene of Gravitation where Shuichi and Yuki were making out... Weird.

My Father
*sees me watching anime*
my father: *stops in his tracks. Stops. Studies the show* Is this....anime?
me: yes.
my father: oh. ok. *leaves*

My mom cared a lot more about it when I was in high school since she was worried it'd affect my grades and was concerned with the swearing/violence, but nowadays she doesn't care. I was super anti-social before I got into anime and I made friends through it, so she was willing to let me carry on with it without complaint. She DID refuse to buy me Descendants of Darkness because she didn't like the title. But she buys me anime for Christmas and has no problems with it. Nowadays she's perfectly fine with it as I don't talk about it 24/7 and am studying Japanese, so it's "practice".

My father has never said a word for or against anime. As long as I don't drink/do drugs/smoke/have sex/get into porn/etc and go to church every Sunday he doesn't really care about what I'm into.

My oldest brother never cared, though he's super careful about what anime shows I'll let my niece and nephew watch. My middle sister and brother used to make fun of me a bit, but I never talk about it with them anymore. Actually, my brother's brother-in-law is into anime too and he's my friend, so my brother always tries to hook me up with him. He gave me a Border's gift card for helping out with his weeding, telling me that I should use it to buy anime to watch with his brother-in-law.

My aunt and uncle are more strict about it, which makes me feel bad for my two cousins that are also into anime. My uncle doesn't like all the smoking and bad language, and my aunt thinks it's a waste of money. My aunt and uncle were pretty strict in most regards though. They would get their mouths washed out with soap if my aunt heard them swear, and their father wouldn't let them buy M rated games or watch rated R movies. Neverless, she'll buy it for them for Christmas as long as it's a good show. She was all excited when she saw her son reading a "book", only to get mad when to find out it was a "comic book". I'm sooo thankful they're my relatives instead of my immediate family. My aunt and uncle are nice, but I don't think I'd want to be under those rules.

I don't understand why parents or anyone would have a problem with people watching anime or reading manga. Unless it's such an obsession that you do nothing else, but otherwise what's the big deal? It's much better than a lot of the crap on tv or wherever. When I found anime I stopped watching tv completely because it just doesn't compare.

My mum thinks that most anime is evil. My dad just shakes his head and wonders why my little sister and I watch it. My other sister calls me a nerd for liking anime. My little brother tells me that he doesn't like it and then sits and watches it with me XD I have him hooked to FMA: Brotherhood at the moment. I will have him converted into an anime lover before the end of the year.

Well, my parents don't care what I do watch, so...

And moreover, liking anime and reading manga isn't a bad thing; calling people nerds over it is just childish. Anime and cartoons aren't too different anyway, in my eyes.

Mom: "Why do you watch it with the words at the bottom?"
Me: "Cuz they don't have 'em in English"
Mom: "...."

After finding out that there was an anime store in my town:
Me: "OH MY GOD! We have to go there!
Mom: "I don't want you spending all your financial aid money on anime"
Me: :'(

One time my mom got me some Bleach dvds she bought at the 99-cent store (lol?) cuz she thought I would like it.....I did.

Another time at the bookstore, she was waiting next to me as I was picking out some manga and she started looking at a Gaara keychain and I was liek ew and she was liek you don't liek that character and then I was liek no mom I hate that show.

My parents don't care anymore. I've always been into "strange" hobbies, like videogames, so this is nothing new for my parents. It was a little more confusing, but now my mom only freaks out if they cuss. "This is for children!?" she asks. Um, yeah, mom. Samurai X. Great children's show. She also didn't like that Haku was calling on magic to break Chihiro of her binds in Spirited Away because he was calling on spirits. I feel it's a little hypocritical since she has read and watched Harry Potter...

But now she's pretty okay with it. I don't talk about it much with her, only to tell her of cheap deals I got (she's Dutch, so she likes hearing about that). I managed to convince her I watch anime because I am learning Japanese and it helps me study. At any rate, I don't spend a lot of money on it (not that she knows, anyway), so she doesn't care.

My father....doesn't really care. At least, he never really says anything about it. He did wonder why the subs and dub lines didn't match up one time when I was watching Wolf's Rain in English with the subs on.

My eldest brother and I never talk about anime. He does ask me about certain shows that I let his daughter watch though. "Is this age appropriate for her?"

My middle brother used to make fun of me for it, but now since his brother-in-law likes it he uses it to try to hook us up, which I find annoying.

My middle sister thinks it's stupid, but I hardly talk with her about it anymore and she leaves me alone with it. She's more concerned with videogames and playing on my Wii to get me upset.

My eldest brother's wife thinks it's stupid, but I hardly talk to her since she's kinda.... The only time she really talks to me is when she wants to babysit.Even if she did say something, I wouldn't pay any attention, as she's still convinced that Pokemon is evil.

My middle brother's wife has seen some anime herself, though she's not into it. She doesn't talk to me at all, but then she hardly talks at all. She's super quiet and timid, and mostly hides behind my brother.

My aunt and uncle don't approve, but I'm not their kid, so they can't say anything. I do feel bad for my cousins, as they are both into anime as well.

My grandparents don't know much about my hobbies, though my uncle doesn't like the style or the stories. He's seen some anime, but nothing good, so he has a very negative view toward anime. But he can't talk because he's a big lold school Disney fan.

I think the general consensus in my family is that it's a waste of time. Of course, this is coming from the same people who watch reality shows religiously. So they don't really voice their opinion on the matter.

On the other hand, my aunt and uncle swear that anime is Satan's creation, and encourages fighting and bullying. They came to this conclusion after watching an episode of Pokemon. I was at a loss for words...

To clarify: I'm 18 and am into most of the stuff my parents are, which includes their music, tv series and alot of movies.

My parents dont like anime at all, me and my dad have random short conversations about it where i'm obviously defence and he's attack... Eventually he goes on about how 'childish' it is and compares my fairly recent addition of anime to my viewing collection to how i 'obsessed' over pokemon when i was 9 (What kid DIDNT obsess about it at that age? It was epic!).

I have tried on occassion to try and get my parents to understand that it is not as childish as they think, by trying to invite atleast my dad to come and watch Death Note (it was his idea a month ago to watch something "So i cant take the piss." - as he said.
On that ocassion he said he didnt want to so me and my 14 year old bro started watching it anyway with the door open.
My mom at the time was currently in direct line with the tv and watched DN from the kitchen while sowwing, so managed to pickup almost everything from the first volume.
After it finished they both came in and sat down for a chat, which consisted of my dad asking my mom what she thought and my mom replying "Well, I wouldnt say its as childish as pokemon, but i wouldnt expect you [me] to be into this stuff, i'd expect your brother to like it but its too young for you.".
- Which ofcourse just led my dad to comment on the odd few scenes that he managed to see (Why does it always have to be ones that make no/little sense rather than the interesting stuff?), and still made comments as to it being an obsession.

I LOLed when i found out that one of my dads friends who is the same age as him revealed himself to also be an anime fan, though my dad (instead of seeing the suggestive side of 'Maybe if people my own age like it then i might like it if i gave it a chance too...') started mocking him and saying that anyone older than kids must have childish mentalities and that his friend must also have been into pokemon and other kids cartoons.

So thats my little rant :)
