First thing that I want to point out is how well-animated this episode was. I was prepared for this episode to look terrible because of the people shouting doom and gloom, saying they should delay the rest of the season, and claiming that the staff hadn't even started working on the remaining episodes beyond episode 18. But the opposite was true, this looked better than last weeks episode. Also, the claim about them not having started production came from random shit I saw on Twitter, so in hindsight, it's probably safe to assume those had zero merit or credibility to begin with lol.

But damn, the fighting that took place in the episodes first half looked incredible, especially when Yuji was going all in on whooping Mahito's ass. Regardless of what the truth is about this episodes production, the staff is pulling some crazy magic out of their asses so props to them.

Last week was Nanami, now it's Nobara's turn on the chopping block. Hopefully that shot of her in the OP surrounded by chairs while she covers her left eye makes a lot more sense now. Spoilers in plain sight 💀 Gotta also have the emotional backstory before sending her off. Yuji is 15 years old experiencing insane levels of trauma in just a matter of a few hours. Poor kid lol.

RIP Nobara, for all we know. I only say "for all we know" because her status is currently listed as "unknown," and even to this day in the manga we still aren't 100% certain of her fate. Still, if you're a Nobara fan I wouldn't hold out hope lol, it's safe to assume she's more than likely gone for real.

So you are saying they aren’t getting overworked to death… What’s literally wrong with you?

@Confused_100 If you mean the last sentence, I'm saying there was probably zero merit or credibility to the claims I saw that said the staff hadn't even started production on the final few episodes yet, mainly because I was seeing those claims being made by random people on Twitter who could have just been making stuff up. Those people could be right for all we know, but they might also be totally wrong. But when it comes to the issue of the animators being overworked, there's no doubt about that, and I'm not saying that's untrue at all.

JJK 2S qualifies as the most overrated anime of the decade.
It's all animation. the plot is confusing and lackluster. I will still finish it, but really disappointed.

I think they managed to make the death of an important character feel less impactful and less emotional than a show like Mahoiku managed to do for each of its death scenes in its 1+ character death / episode ratio, which is telling a lot about how terrible the writing and choreography has been for both death. I had to go and check if she was really dead in the source material because Icouldn't believe any story could spend time to give flashback and several additional scene to a death of a character that has been here for dozens of episodes yet still so absurdly miss the mark that most anime out there can play the death of characters we've known for one episode in a better manner.

RIP Nobara and Nanami, your death wasn't sad but the fact they weren't felt as such is truly sad. Also it's even worse for Nobara since a death happening so close of Nanami's means that it will have almost zero impact in character growth and story telling on the long run. What a freaking waste. JJK was never about having anything more than cool fights so expecting good writing is kind of having the wrong expectations, but wow we really hit the bottom of the barrel this episode. I seriously hope that this IS the bottom and that we aren't going to sink lower.

Females are bad written and not needed because they are NPCs in the Jujutsu Kaisen.

People got illusion over "Nobara or Maki" is good female characters, No. Good female characters does not exist in shounen, stop chasing a dream. This episode already shows it.
@Okeanix Not gonna spoil but trust me brother, your opinion about Maki not being a good character might change really soon

*deep breath* Im enjoying this emotional damage, yes, as anime only watcher i like how in point of story tell direction it goes, fights are spectacular too,
good season so far, im fine im clearly not (well, at least i like how mappa animators n special effects staff made it in total)
Im usually ok with bad guys, but Mahito- When i catch Mahito! this little piece of- uhhh, i hate it so much, i just want it dead already.
Thats enough, Yuji please beat that thing twice hard. Nanami and now Nobara, rest well my dear, you wont be forgotten. They were so interesting characters... I miss you already.

Poor Nobara. One of the few characters I really liked from Season 1, getting no screentime in Season 2, and then being inserted into the battle just to be killed off for shock factor.

Why can't battle-shounen authors write a good backstory into a character's arc without going down the cheap "flashback right before I die" trope? Demon Slayer pulls this stunt over and over again and it's just a sign of bad writing.

@thebrentinator24 Nah it’s entirely true that the production is fucked. I will say that the thing about episode production is a lie. They typically finish the episode in 3 or so weeks according to people working on the project. That said the episodes are typically finished either the day before or the day of airing. Which is quite bad. And even if episodes look good still(which they will, next ep is supposed to look even better) it should very much be delayed. Animators are suffering just to put out a decent product. That alone should warrant a delay of a few weeks to hopefully reset everything a bit. But yeah expect that the animation will be choppy in a lot of episodes and have some big ups and downs depending on the staff. The big moments will hit and the less important stuff will be looking quite wonky

Huh. They really killed off what could have been a lead female character after she achieved nothing in the story. I guess she was a plot device to make Yuji extra EXTRA sad so he can go total sicko mode on Mahito next episode.

@Peenutz Oh yea I'm definitely aware of how fucked their production schedule is, and how some episodes are finished at the last possible minute, which is just ridiculous. Even though finishing last minute isn't a new thing in the industry, no anime's staff should be dealing with that kind of crunch. With only 4 episodes left I doubt they'll delay anything this late in the game. It sucks that the animators have to push themselves as hard as they do to barely get the episode done in time, so I'm grateful when they still manage to give us episodes like what we've gotten over the last few weeks.

my words exactly. Like WTF, Nobara really grew on me after that fight against the brothers at the ending of S1, and she had a lot of nice spotlight at that season. Now compare her role in S2 to that... :/ It was a nice fight, at least better than that one against miracle boy, the Haruta guy, but holy fucking shit. I feel like all those deaths are starting to be just for show "oh no i'm in shokk 😭😭" and, c'mon, develop a character more before killing him or her off. More like Game of Thrones: Shibuya Incident

@thebrentinator24 they are absolutely not gonna delay it unfortunately. Hopefully this leads to a lot more animators not wanting to work with them on future projects. Maybe having a sharp decline in quality will help them change their ways

1: The fight scenes and animation were amazing!! Mahito having another person who can beat his a*s is nice to see, ya know?

2: They did not just kill off Nobara… right? RIGHT?!?!? OH COME ON!!😭

3: I was like the whole time “I really want to see Fumi, Nobara and the other lady meet up again” and then Mahito, the little bi*ch he is pulled this sh*t again…. ugh I swear I’m gonna strangle him through the screen one of these days…👊

4: Fumi is so cute!!

5: This was an amazing episode and idk why but it really resonated with me and reminded me a lot about how I grew up even though we grew up I think a little differently.
Also felt like déjà vu like I’d seen the scene with the other lady at the office with her coworker…

6: Itadori, I felt so happy seeing you smile for the one moment and now this happened omg I’m so sorry sweetheart 😭😭😭😭 please don’t spiral into insanity with this!!

5/5 great episode! Enjoyed it quite a lot and it felt really close to home in a way.
Animation was great and it didn’t feel like the episode was too long or short.
Great job animators!! You too Gege even though you hurt me it’s good writing and story so good job!!

Ps: Mahito when I catch you Mahito-

I know what hell the animators are living in right now and I know how much the animation didn't demand in the last three episodes. But now it's that great series again where I don't have to worry about the fact that we don't have transitions between shots or that the characters look like they were drawn in Paint. This is just wonderful. I hope the last four episodes will be at that level. And then the animators should get holidays, a bonus, a raise and psychological care.

My fav characters keep bursting. That's Shibuya alright.

It was a rare one for me to love one of the main female characters almost immediately, especially in shounen. I usually find them so annoying in most anime, Nobara however was such a nice badass. I love how well she works with her team, how Yuji and her seem to share a braincell. Even when they fought Mahito now, there was that dynamic. I think that's what I miss with her gone as a manga reader.

Now i remember why I hated Mahito more than Haruta. It's tricky af that you can't let him touch you, so most characters would have one hell of a bad time against him.

I love it when authors add in useless flashbacks right before a character dies, means I can just skip 5 minutes ahead and get to watching something better written that much faster. Why would anyone care what happens in those, the character is dead, any character growth they'd gain from the flash is pointless.

Really hate to admit it, but this is one of the first times I actually got mad about the placement of backstory within a big moment lol, so I went and actually skipped ahead temporarily, and yeah I knew it, you ain’t getting no tears from me this time you dastardly show lol. So afterward I went back and watched the backstory after Nobara bit the dust, and it was a really nice backstory, I don’t fully understand the Saori stuff before she moved but there’s probably something I’m not getting there, it was also kinda weird it was being narrated by Nobara’s friend but I didn’t mind that, and of course Nobara was incredibly cute, loved her expressions.

And I also loved Nobara’s badass moment where her attack working on Mahito ended up helping Yuji which led to an amazing fury of punches on that walking punching bag, unfortunately that didn’t do him in and we lost Nobara, or at least it appears that way, it feels kinda wasteful killing her like this but at the same time I’m not totally against this either, but it does kinda hurt to see it as well lol. And lastly, I’m once again amazed by the quality of the episode despite the conditions we’ve been hearing about, i definitely thank the animators for their work.

I felt nothing for Nobara's death just like in the manga, so I guess this was a perfect adaptation from MAPPA. Adding a flashback just before it happens doesn't make me care more for her whatsoever. Wasted character by Gege; he should've had her do more early on in Shibuya for us to actually care.

It's easy to tell that most of these episodes were put together the day/week of airing. Mahito gets punched into a wall by Yuji leaving him sitting down next to a massive blood stain and the next shot we see of him he is standing up with 0 damage taken. It can be seen as nitpicking, but many cuts simply do not flow well into others. Animation was fine, but fine is not enough for JJK.

My sentiments toward this season can be somewhat salvaged if they adapt the upcoming fight to near perfection. Otherwise Shibuya's adaptation is a miss for me.
