Poor Shirahoshi, she can't leave her room because that bastard Vander Decken can attack her anytime.

Wow.. where to even start. I guess at the beginning.. so, Vander Decken! He is one eccentric guy and he has one eccentric crew. I thought there may be some truth to what he was saying in the beginning, despite King Neptune seeming like a good guy, he does have his daughter locked up, who does that? Was he really keeping her locked away for a politically motivated marriage.. did he really deny Vander Decken and Shirahoshi's love for that and lock her up? These were the questions I was asking, then 2 seconds later he tosses one of the axes and it flies right to her door just like the others while saying he's throwing one 'as always'. So, she's really been locked away for 10 years for her own safety as Vander Decken has been using the mark mark fruit trying to kill her and he did says "he suspects" not he knows regarding his accusations. Then later Shirahoshi said she rejected his marriage proposal and he holds a grudge. So everything points to Vander Decken being a psychopathic yandere dude who as he said, would rather have her die if she doesn't marry him. There is one thing to note though, Megalo has been Shirahoshi's only friend because the king doesn't let guards spend more than 5 minutes in her room. I suppose to keep her safe but that does suggest some weird stuff. She's mostly isolated for 10 years, that's not healthy, even if a big iron door is the solution to the mark-mark fruit.

On top of all of that, as everyone could have guessed, Vander Decken who hates the king and wants to kill or marry the princess easily teamed up with Hody Jones who wants to kill the Neptunes and take over Fishman island to push their anti-human views. What did shock me though was Hody Jones saying they would destroy the kingdom completely. Don't they want to rule it rather than wipe it out? It is there home too, even if they live in a bad area. I was assuming they wanted control not annihilation. Either way, we have two incredibly cheesy villains, it was about time as most of Summit War were pretty nuanced and understandable. Sure Kizaru may have been a really bad guy but he was just taking sadistic joy in his job, Hancock was in a less cheesy imo but similar situation to Hody Jones, just she rather avoided men rather than tried to make them extinct, Magellan and Hannyabal were awesome and believed they were truly doing the right thing with some arguments behind it, and what's more morally complex than War of the Best, Crocodile's and Akainu's on both sides, but Whitebeard's and Luffy's along with Sengoku's and garps on the other side. Now we have the seemingly good Neptune army and the seemingly absolutely crazy and evil Hody Jones/Vander Decken alliance. One is a yandere psycho and the other is a drug using league of shadowy villains racist leader both hell-bent on annihilation. It was about time. This does make for two boss villains though which is interesting! There's not one big bad anymore, but with how Hody Jones was set up to be so powerful in a scary way rather than how Vander Decken was just shown to use his power I'd still say Hody Jones is the real big bad if there is only one Luffy will fight- assuming we're back to the formula before Summit War that is, I still believe this could play out in a super organic and cool way. P.S. the mark mark fruit is like the power of Sniper in Yuyu Hakusho!

Now there's two other things I want to mention so I'll start on the Shirahoshi scene. Luffy had almost 3 crimes pinned on him, the mermaid abduction, the prediction, and trying to kill the princess which would look horrible on top of all of that. Instead he's simply going to "kidnap" her by going for a walk with her. So, it may not be that much better. And seriously, Vander Decken trying to kill Shirahoshi literally saved Luffy from that as he had a chance to prove he was a good guy. Regardless of all of that, their scene together was hilarious and interesting. Luffy telling her to 'decide herself if he's good' went well with something I've noted recently yet something that runs back to the beginning of the series, Luffy judging off character and nothing else. 'Not all navy are good, not all pirates are bad' is a common theme and he basically told Shirahoshi that, judge him off his character, not his title. Then he chowed down on a giants meal hilariously as an enjoyable backdrop to some characterization and exposition. Shirahoshi reminds me of both Kaya and Soran, a third cute girl who is limited to a specific location and dreams to see the world, all of which get a chance to hear, or in this case at least see some of the world around them, in the other two cases it was telling them stories, Usopp's fake stories and Robin's real ones. Side point, I hope Usopp goes back and tells Kaya all the real stories of his journeys one day. Lastly regarding this scene, I laughed so hard when Luffy was the first person to ever yell at the princess and as she started crying he said she's a giant coward and cry baby and he doesn't like her. It reminded me of when Coby was being a baby in the beginning and Luffy punched him, maybe Luffy will teach Shirahoshi to be strong too. Him also being called "Luffy-sama" by royalty is so funny to me.

Finally the crew shenanigans. When we heard Zoro was taken while he was sleeping I almost didn't believe it. Zoro has this near supernatural sense of danger, I remember him waking up when the Franky family tried to sneak up on him in his sleep. But maybe it wasn't any danger and that's why he didn't care. I am super curious on how he broke out of jail too as he wasn't left with his swords, did he Kenshiro style bend the bars? Did he grab one of the guards through the bars? However it was I bet it was good. But Zoro's actions weren't the shocking ones here, it was Usopp, Nami, and Brook's. When they were surrounded I thought to myself "it's interesting that they are the ones surrounded as with characters like Zoro they would never accept being taken away for no good reason, but Nami and Usopp and Brook aren't fighters, they are smart and will know fighting could make things worse and they are pre-timeskip a little cowardly so it's interesting because they will probably go along with it". Well that didn't happen, Nami, Brook, and Usopp showed no fear at all. In fact Usopp led the charge taking out a new weapon and being so confident and cool in saying what he did, "if we don't resist we'll be taken anyways" and "I don't know what we will do in the future but you can't arrest us for things we haven't done". I think it was so intentional to put the group most likely to go along with the guards together to show us that they are so confident and strong now that they literally don't care. Sure things like sea monsters and krakens may make them show their scared sides, but this kind of situation isn't a big deal at all anymore and as Pappagu said, Usopp got so cool. Like seriously, I used to say he already became a brave warrior, but now he's more cool than not cool, before his coolness came off in brief moments.. wow!!! Then of course Zoro literally clashed blades with the king, showing that the Neptune army probably can't do a thing to stop them. I got chills that scene. They put in time and trained and got way more confident!!

Imagine having to lock yourself up in your own room for a whole decade just because of a deranged suitor who'd rather kill you than see you with someone else. I'm glad that Luffy came into Shirahoshi's life so she can experience a change of pace that she so desperately needs but I can already tell that what they're trying to do would be misinterpreted as a kidnapping at this rate.

Decken and Jones have forged an alliance, wow.

'when he arrived he drank himself into a state of compliance' moments like these are why i've always seen eye to eye with Zoro. when somebody's offering booze, it'd be rude not to drink FAR in excess
a speedhead and an autoaim hacker teamed up, it's just like playing online shooters

Dang, Luffy really is overly honest and has absolutely no tact with women. Poor Shirahoshi :(
Impressive save with the axe though and nice that he offered to play bodyyguard so that she'd be able to take some time out of that room :3

Really like how they're showcasing the rest of the crew having actually powered up. Luffy having no qualms at all about the threat of capture as he knows they won't be able to even BE captured (at least not easily). Zoro stole the limelight at the end though with such a casual offscreen breakout even though his swords would've been taken while he was in the cell xD

Maybe best episode of the arc.

Luffy stoping the axe was cool. And him telling the princess I don’t really like you was to funny. But we all knew were this was going. He definitely going to show her the outside world. Become friends. She gets kidnapped. He kicks ass to save her. Haha. It should be good.

Also Zoro is just so cool and bad ass.

That’s the only thing with this arc. The Jones and Vander pirate seem tough. But even with those pills. I don’t think they could take the big 3 now. But we shall. Maybe if they can get a 2v1 vs Luffy they could.
