Which languages are you fluent in?

@traed There are a few people who only speak Nahuatl in Mexico. It's the official language but 97% of the population can't even speak it.


Speak it with family and friends. I don't know any outsiders that speak it.

@traed Not really. Most Mexicans don't even want to knowledge they came from indigenous/ Native groups of the region. They rather celebrate the rape and murder of their ancestors "mestizo" garbage Not so much isolated it's more discrimination and systemically oppressed they don't even want gear language spoke.

Just 2. Spanish is my native, so it doesn't count, and English doesn't count either because it's mandatory to learn it in school in my country. So, besides that, i'm fluent in Italian and decent in Greek (modern).

I really want to learn Chinese tho, i just don't know where to start (˶˃⤙˂˶)

@floating_lily I'm not sure I've ever thought about who my favorite author is; that's an interesting question. I'd probably have to rank Foucault pretty high, but I think I might put Terry Eagleton (an English literary critic) and Thomas Schelling (who won the Nobel Prize in Economics for bringing game theory into nuclear strategy) at the same level.

Unfortunately I'm speaking it right now, and it's the only one. 😭

I'm a bit confused how you phrased this to my question. Since that would be very odd for the few who only speak Nahuatl and no Spanish to not acknowledge their heritage and history. Even they do that? That's difficult to wrap my head around. I could see that if you were talking the general population of Mexicans though.

@traed Even they do what? Discrimination against indigenous / native population? Yes they do.

It's not odd at all the education is gear for Spanish and Spanish parts of Mexico where Nahuatl only spoke language in certain towns it happens.

The question "even they do that?" was a confirmation of understanding of that statement I made in the sentence before that if there are people who's sole language is Nuhautl being in denial to themselves of their own lineage and ancestral history. But I guess you meant how others see them. I wouldn't be surprised of discrimination in spite of common origin. In fact in the US some White Supremacist groups have a few obviously Latino members.

Sometimes I feel English doesn't clearly convey meaning of what is intended.

Polish and English on a native level, I was born in Poland, but accidentally taught myself English through 7-12 years old by shutting off my brain and watching youtube in English because I thought it was cool. So far no one has come up with an explanation as to how I learned English to a near-native level since my family doesn't speak it ( I never told anyone the truth for funsies lol ).

@floating_lily since I am a native speaker, I can't actually answer it, but I think every language can be worth it^^ But I always hear that german is a hard language to learn.

I want to learn japanese (so I don't need subs anymore) and turkish, but I'm too lazy.

@floating_lily in germany (or in the neighborhood I live in) we have many turkish people there, so I thought it would be cool to understand and speak turkish. But that was a totally random thought and like I said, I'm too lazy^^' xD
