This tells me you most likely have never dealt with severe bullying, depression and suicidal thoughts. Which I don’t know you I could be wrong, but in regards to her not telling anyone, it’s really not that simple when you’re going through such a thing, it can feel embarrassing, you don’t want to be a burden, you feel hopeless so you might not see the point in saying anything, many more reasons. So I think it’s arguably the best episode and agree I think it’s you not being able to empathize with her and instead telling her all the things she’s not doing or doing wrong. She’s also very depressed and feels very alone so I’m sure the last thought she has is capitalizing on the situation, to put any blame on her or anyone depressed or bullied to that extent is the opposite of being understanding.

I absolutely agree with this

Clearly you aren’t familiar with this type of shit. I’m pretty sure this sequence with Akane was based on Hana Kimura who committed suicide under similar circumstances so there is merit to it.

you clearly have no idea how teenage depression and cyberbullyung works, people on the internet are absolutely ruthless, even tiny mistakes will make people despise you and say awful things, as someone who's dealt with somewhat similar situations to her, she feels very realistic. Sure you can just "turn the phone off" but when somsone says horrible things to you, telling you you're the worst and that you should off yourself, the words continue to linger and eatat your mind, and also considering the pressure of being on TV, teens and child actors especially will get criticized nonstop by the masses.
we aren't built for that level of attention, that amount of insults and death threats, it's a very hard and complicated situation, just "getting help" isn't that simple.
Plus as we all know, she does change throughout the show.
If you are going to make threads like this, I'd highly suggest actually looking into mental health and the different effects it has on people and things like that before going on an insensitive rant.
Not everyone can just "get better" or "toughen up" in the blink of an eye, that's not how people work. It's a long and tedious process.
@thefanartfreak oh im sorry i thought these forums are for discussion?

theres nothing wrong with having a problem with an episode, i just want to clear up my sort of issues with the ep but now thinking i guess i was too harsh

Mainly i didnt like this type of of character that are timid or shy idk why it annoys me but then again if she was not in the industry and just a normal school that got cyberbully than i would sympathise her, but this time shes an actor you choose to be here shouldnt you realise that its not gonna be easy?

discussing also means trying to understand another point of view from people who also in turn understand the character more, just because someone is in a difficult industry does not make cyberbullying or any form of abuse automatically okay, it feels victim blamey. the actual problem were well, the bullies, it shows how ruthless people are and how horrible it is. Bullies are the problem, not how the victim deals with it.

While yes the entertainment industry is hard and one should expect it, it feels weird to expect people to be downright awful to you and tell you to end your life. People work in that industry to entertain, never become they wanan be told they shouldn't exist by degenerates online.

First things first, i find this ep as message about cyber bullying and i do find it realistic and important.

(So far oshi no ko has been ok nothing major really)

BUT I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT SYMPATHISE AKANE AT ALL.
Why?
1. i think she's an idiot who cant take advantage of a situation. Like after the scene with yuki (which btw was illogical), akane has already apologised to yuki and she accepts it. Surely, she realises that 'huh, this is my chance to be sort of a yander or a villain esque character' and make this series interesting?
2. her mom asked her twice 'are u ok?' And she doenst reach out to her at all. Like mannn share your burden with your mom or even the manager. I find it hard to understand why she didnt.
3. she's in a dating show, why cant she take this as a step to change her personality? Idk if she was forced or whatever dude need to realise that you have to face it. you want this career, no?

I get this shes in her teens i guess but i think its hard for me to sympathise her when all she does is put herself in a bubble and victimising herself.

I think its more of me not been in her postion and thats true and im not sitting here saying chill bro or anything because this can happen to other people, but i feel the show could show more of action from her character.

Again, i find it this message is realistic esp the jap audiences are very cruel with their comments but man akane lol

Bro has clearly never experienced this before, he missed the messages of this episode and is complaining about it

online bullying and trauma isnt so simple as talk it out people come in all shapes and sizes It's a black hole people have to claw out of, and Akane didn’t need to perform for you while doing it.Trauma is not that simple

@JannisT i dont think its a shit take considering she looked for it. Why are u on the internet after what you saw? Plus its just questions that ppl can help me understand better. I didnt say ahh why are u depress kid? I just nitpick and thats it. Obv i retracted back this things ive said but still the next ep for whatever she can imitate ai but why she didnt study a character like that before, to put on for the series?

I don't think you need to like Akane as a character or understand the psychology behind things to be able to sympathise with her

How you ended the post explains it best, you haven't been in her position, and i assume you don't have knowledge on human psychology either

That said, although it's understandable that it's hard to understand her motives and/or connect to the character without any knowledge or personal experience of her situation, the way you phrased your post does come off as very self centered and out of touch

It's a lot of "why didn't she do this or that?" "why is she behaving illogically?" whithout taking into acount that different people will react differently to different situations based on their personality, their upbringing, their mental state

Some of the reasons behind her behaviour also get revealed in later episodes/seasons, like her relationship with her parents and why she might not feel comfortable telling her mom

You don’t like a whole episode because of a characters mistake? This was used to show her character and wants to impress aqua(or any boy) by showing she is not the type to take advantage but stay quiet.

She is a kid. Akane will do eta more problematic thing in the future but blaming her for being victim of cyber bullying. Some people just can't consult everything with their parents and they don't want them involved.

On another topic, this episode actually caused a pretty huge controversy when it was released as it so closely mirrored an actual event that ended in the suicide of a real person. I think it's a pretty good episode but it felt kinda out of place to me so I looked it up. Anyway even if it doesn't seem realistic stuff like this does actually happen in the real world and unfortunately a large majority of time people treat stars like they're asking for it and alot of their mental health issues fall on deaf ears. Anyway, I'm sorry the episode/show isn't for you and hope you find an anime you enjoy more in the future.

i do agree that shes taking it to heart too much but some people are like that irl. ive seen people who have experienced this in the past first hand say that its accurate so i trust that.

also i feel like this is an outcome of no one in her life warning her that this might happen and establishing a better outlook on it before it happens as i would expect from her parents (given they had to sign the contracts to let her act,.the need to take responsibility for preparing her for that world by doing the most research possible, but that is an outsiders perspective so i dont think her parents are the worst they just didn't expect it to happen)

Crazy take honestly “why didn’t you instantly pivot and try and take advantage of this thing you did that could destroy your career whether you try to work with it or not” is take 1. That’s insane. Take 2 is even worse like you realise people who have anxiety or depression or panic attacks or are suicidal OFTEN do not reach out for various reasons one of which being they don’t want to trouble others with their problems. Like A LOT of people irl this applies too. Take 3 has the same problems as take 1. But honestly that second take is insane it’s like saying “why are people depressed just stop thinking badly about yourself and go fix it.”
