If Japanese-Western co-productions shouldn't be on this site, then neither should Chinese or Korean productions, which aren't anime at all.

Good looking trailer.
Too bad that I live in so rural area, that it's not possible to see it in the theater.

Ok, I'm kind of sick of how wildly inconsistent MAL is becoming with anime entries lately. Like the poster above me says, the rules are never consistent with western co-productions. Adult swim/Toonami/WB has co-produced anime with Japan since the mid-2000s beginning with the Big O season 2, IGPX, several of the ones listed above me, and Space Dandy. Not to mention French co-productions like Cybersix and Oban Star Racers have been listed here as well. All of a sudden, everything has to be a complete 100% made Japanese production or it doesn't matter which flys in the face of Korean/Chinese productions as well. MAL, or rather the mods of MAL, do better, man.

I basically don't post on forums, but it's quite nonsensical if this isn't added. There's so much other random stuff like full 3D and foreign (Chinese, Korean) productions here, so why doesn't a known Japanese director's animation work suffice?

It's still considered to be an American production.

@Leknaat Respectfully, you guys are stupid with this logic. If we're going by exactly what you said, then the following series that had American production involvement that are listed on this website would also not be considered "anime" by your guidelines:

  • The Animatrix
  • Halo Legends
  • Terminator Zero
  • the Transformers Unicron Trilogy (Armada, Energon, Cybertron)
  • Batman: Gotham Knight

These series listed above all include Americans in creative or production positions, or co-productions with the purpose of being designed for both western and Japanese markets as is the case for the Transformers Unicron trilogy. Either all Japanese-Western co-produced series should be allowed on the site, or none at all.
@Harmonmj13 you are right, that garbage should be removed

I came from the movie, it isnt amazing, not that good. But it was a good popcorn movie and a must for fans of the original trilogy. I fan boyed seeing some voices of the original trilogy and the soundtrack and the world, that is just the anime version of the original trilogy that all love.
Its far from perfect, i have some complaints in terms of the story and characters, but very enjoyable movie.
Alot complain about the mc being forced or how the story for Tolkien purists is just "fan fiction", well the MC, unlike alot of movie or shows that put a Woman lead and the woman tries to be a "men" and is perfect in everything she does. She was kind, with "woman" qualities, but at the same time a strong character that could fail and be vulnerable. I just wish they touched more her relationship with the "villain", SPOILER: Like showing more their childhoods together.

Its a shame the movie isnt being sucessful, this would be great for anime in general and the end, gives hits to potential sequels, which i would like, there is room for so many stories to cover and the mc was a good mc. This was the closest to me, since the original trilogy, that captured the vibe of it. And despite not being perfect, we could see the people around it, was very passioned and respected what they were doing.

The movie was made by Kenji Kamiyama, the guy who made Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. His profile in MAL: https://myanimelist.net/people/5348/
And the movie was made in Japan by a Japanese studio, Solas Digital Art, which has already made other anime added to the database: https://myanimelist.net/anime/producer/1189/Sola_Digital_Arts

The movie fills all the Database Guidelines: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=141101

The movie is currently airing on Japan with Japanese seiyus, and it was added to ANN: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=28075

Can someone explain why is not added to the database? It literally fills all the requirements.

I saw it, it's really not worth fighting over if it is anime or not. The animation is pretty sub-par and the only anime-thing about this whole thing is character design, the animation feels off like its Rotoscoping.
In the credits, most of the animation staff is Chinese with some Japanese supervision, and anyone that has worked with someone supervising can tell, supervisors don't give a fuck.
My opinion, this is not anime.

Anilist already has counted the film as anime on their database. Strangely enough, AniDB has not put it in, and ANN's Encyclopedia still listed the film as a US movie.

Meanwhile, MAL still refused to add Scott Pilgrim Takes Off into their database while Anilist, AniDB, and ANN's Encyclopedia count it as anime. MAL not adding Scott Pilgrim into their database baffles me.

Also, and this is weird, did anybody watch Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic? I'm aware the animation was done by Production I.G, Manglobe, and the Korean animation studio, Dong Woo Animation, and Digital eMation. What's crazy is that I can't tell if I should classify this animated film as anime or not, and the problem is that even though MAL, Anilist, and AniDB don't have it on their database and don't classified it as anime. But ANN's Encyclopedia has classified it as anime. Even the late Zac Bertschy even reviewed the film on ANN.

And it get really messed up too when it comes to which manhwas/webtoons get on MAL's database. Because I was reading one of the webtoon on the LINE WEBTOON app. It's called The Seductive Wife aka Yahan Anae/야한 아내 and not to be confused with a Japanese H-manga title of the same name. But for some strange reason, MAL has refused to add that manhwa/webtoon on their database while Anilist has it on their database. And if you want to know why they don't want to add that title on their database, I requested/asked and there's a BS reason for it. I even ranted about it on my Anilist post a week ago.

Great, just great. The MAL world of who get to be on their database becomes more confusing, and more frustrating for fans like me and others out there.

@Harmonmj13 Japanese-Western co-produced series should be allowed on the site. There are all the Madhouse ones too, like Iron Man or Highlander.
The one listed here should remain in the database. Agree 100% about why they don't do the same for newer products. ftw

@Philomc Never read so many false crap about this movie, that's a very sub-par bullshit trolling post. Rotoscoping? What the hell are you on about, did you even saw the movie and/or know what rotoscoping even is? ffs
Also, director is Japanese, and so many of the studios who worked on this. We don't give a fuck about you're wrong perspective, This IS anime.
