Seriously didn't expect to enjoy this anime so much. Fantastic story and characters. Looking forward for Ave Mujica's anime in 2025!

This Saki girl needs her development as soon as possible in the sequel so the two bands play that one song together or something.

I watched this because I was interested in the supposed serious girl band show, and it wasn't what I expected from it in both a bad (I found plot, themes and characters meh and a bit irritating and melodramatic at times) and a good (it wasn't as exaggerated and melodramatic as I read it was) way.

So my opinion about it is pretty neutral, gonna watch the sequel and some similar shows.

This anime was great! This is my first time dabbling into bandori (other than some poppin'party songs here and there from playing osu), and this was a good introduction to it! I loved how emotional and character driven this was.

Animation is good, writing is good, music is good. Overall it's pretty consistent throughout. 8.5/10

Looking forward to ave mujica's time to shine next year! Can't wait to see more backstory on Sakiko. She seems like an interesting character.

Ending the anime with this episode that was most just about Saki and her new band + her stupid negativity just feels disappointing. The MyGO parts were really good imo and I enjoyed it, therefore episode 13 disappoints me. I guess it was just episode 10 that made me enjoy the anime a lot more. It just feels like they used the last episode to promote other series. Was there really much of an ending to MyGO!!!!! series?

This was my first experience with the Bang Dream series and overall, I liked it. The music was fantastic & I'd definitely say that Tomori was the best character. I felt that she had the most growth out of all the girls and her story very much resonated with me. Anon was ok & Taki I felt could be kind of rigid at times, but I still liked her. Rana was such a vibe lol. I didn't like Soyo nor Sakiko at all, however I am interested in learning more about why Sakiko disbanded the group in the first place. It looks like we'll learn more about that in the next series coming. Overall, it was pretty good and I will watch the Ave Musica sequel. 8/10

It started kind of slow and even felt a little frustrating at times, but the last quarter of the series was really solid. Also the anime is only really 12 episodes as episode 13 is more of a prologue for Ave Mujica.

Alright um... I started this on a whim at 3AM one day and finished it in 2 days. I'm not sure why but I REALLY liked it. Probably Utakotoba, Soyo, Tomori, Anon or all of them. Or probably because I wanted to enjoy something after Aqours announcing their final live.

While I believe that Anon's voice is not good enough, her character was excellent and made me keep on watching. Same with Soyo, learning her true nature was very good storytelling and her friendship/hateful relationship with Anon was very fun to watch. After episode 8, Tomori finally started to develop and grew to be a good main character. Episode 10 was very intense and emotional, Utakotoba is one of my favorite songs from now on.

I'm not sure I understand the Rana character. She's very skilled but... that's it. Taki is just another character that I don't get, I'm not sure her friendly banter with Anon is good for the band. I really enjoyed the show but these lost girls sometimes got on my nerves. Some awkward episodes, but a lot of unecessary high school drama that I love to watch. Better than the previous Bang Dream shows but still, the edgy music and rock and roll was the strong part of this show.

6/10

Was really looking forward to this. As part of the r/anime awards jurors last year, I gave Shine Post a 9/10 and voted it #1 out of 8 final drama nominations. It was my AOTY alongside Summertime Rendering. This should've been right up my alley, as like Shine Post, it involved a number of ex-members of a music group. But in Shine Post, the ex-members returned to Tings. In Bandori MyGO, 2 of the ex-Crychic members ultimately never reconciled.

My main issue with this show is that every girl is insufferable and I couldn't root for any of them. That's obviously the selling point of the band, in that all of MyGO features flawed girls. But it doesn't seem to me that any of the girls actually grew wiser and learned from what happened. In Shine Post, each girl had their own issues, but the story unfolded in a way to allow the viewer to care and rooted for them. Even the ex-members, which appeared as the initial antagonists, ended up being fantastic characters and were ultimately redeemed.

In MyGO, the only reason why the band stuck around was that the random comic-relief character, Raana, decided to use her deus ex machina abilities in ep10 and magically get everyone together again. I absolutely hated Raana and thought she was the worst character in the show. I knew her eccentricity would eventually give the writers an out, and it did. Everyone only accepted her because she was already skilled with the guitar. It would've been more interesting if Raana was as unskilled as Anon on the guitar, because I'm pretty sure Taki would've kicked Raana out of the band. Contrast to Shine Post where the manager's ability to detect lies actually didn't magically resolve all of Tings' interpersonal issues.

The other non-Crychic girl, Anon, was set up to be the main character of the show. The writing for her fell so flat that they had to make up a fake, inconsequential flaw just so that she could have one like the rest of the cast. She apparently runs away during adversity. The writers didn't get the memo because Raana was a no-show more times than Anon. Anon's flaw didn't cripple the band at all, and was only used as a cheap trick for one scene. The flashback didn't help other than show that Anon wasn't very good at English, so she ran away from England. Really? She went to England without being good at English? What did she think was going to happen? Maybe the writers wanted to avoid a Mary Sue situation where Anon became the angel who solved everyone's issues. But giving her a fake flaw was even more insulting.

The last 20 seconds of ep13 finally revealed in an indirect way why Saki left Crychic, ultimately causing its disbandment. She is no longer upper class and is desperate to return to it. This puts much context into her actions in previous episodes, and explains why Ave Mujica was created. While I think this development was great, I don't like how it was just dropped at the end of the show just like that. Instead, for the previous 12 episodes, the viewer had been conditioned to hate the 2 Crychic quitters, Saki and Mutsumi. I also worry about how this puts season 2's writing in a corner: Bandori is a media franchise and it will never make Sakiko/Mutsumi join MyGO now that their band is established. They can't be redeemed unlike Yukine and Momiji from Shine Post, so why should I care about them? The Ave Mujica revelation could've been revealed earlier at the cost of not resolving the internal MyGO drama. With a larger overarching story, this could've been a 2-cour bonanza where both plotlines were resolved at the end of 2 cours.

Ultimately, MyGO the band has 3/5 ex-Crychic members, Anon with an inconsequential flaw, and Raana the deus ex machina. Take away Anon and Raana, and this very well could've been a great show where Saki/Mutsumi reconciled with the others and got back together again in a cathartic fashion. Instead, we're left with the shaky alliance of MyGO, where Tomori and Soyo still can't let go of Crychic, and Ave Mujica, which is even more unlikeable than MyGO and is there just to sell another video game.

4/10. This was no Shine Post, and I clearly won't hold it in the same regard as the r/anime jurors who crowned it AOTY. (I didn't participate this year as I had major grievances with the process, and have since disowned the official ranking.)
@Gippy I presume you have plans to watch Ave Mujica?

EDIT: By the way, regarding this take:

"In MyGO, the only reason why the band stuck around was that the random comic-relief character, Raana, decided to use her deus ex machina abilities in ep10 and magically get everyone together again."

To say that Raana magically brought the band back together on her own is extremely disingenuous. Sure, Raana was responsible for dragging Taki back in, and she did assist Tomori by jumping in to play guitar for her onstage. However, Raana wasn't the one who persistently begged Anon to play guitar again; Tomori was. Raana also didn't follow Soyo all the way to her condo just to speak to her and persuade her to show up; Anon did. Hell, Raana wasn't even the one who started the whole process in the first place; it was Tomori choosing to book her own shows and read her poems in front of a live audience. Raana only came to help her once she realized what Tomori was trying to do.

The way you described how the band was brought back together makes me feel like you didn't actually pay attention to that specific episode tbh.

P.S. This may seem minor, but I'm not very keen on tolerating bad faith critiques that quickly jump into negative conclusions about certain things without trying to understand why they are the way they are or check if their perceptions of those things are even correct (e.g. claiming that Anon's flaw had zero effect on the band without checking back to see if that's actually true).

Started this show just for Ave Mujica, glad to finally be at my desired destination. This prequel episode (especially the ending) only reinforces my already high expectations 8)

Wait, its Ave Mujica!
Im glad to see those drama queens again.

And this episode seems to be more about Ave Mujica.
MyGO seems like they dealt with their problems (at least for a while) and they are doing well.

The beginning of Ave Mujica as a band is shown, Saki is very dark and you can already feel the tension (which will reach its peak in Ave Mujica anime and i already know how it will end because i watched that anime before this one).

And one more song, how cool the lives are made in this anime.

***

Well, about this anime itself i think i have already expressed my opinion in comments to the previous episodes.

I have heard about this anime before and seen the arts of characters, but i did not even expect such high quality in everything: in the visuals (despite the fact that its 3D, but it looks very good, this anime changed my opinion about 3D animation), in the story, in the characters and of course in the music.

I have long ago "buried" whole anime industry and it seemed to me that there is nothing good anymore, but then suddenly i find such a literal hidden gem. Extremely underrated and too unknown, which in general shows the state of anime industry and anime community now.

But im glad that i found and watched this anime, it really touched my soul, became a part of my life and its for such works its worth living on this planet, lol, but thats true.

Well, what do numbers mean when it comes to art but ofc its 10/10.

P.S. Damn and how to live without this anime now?? Im really gonna miss it and characters too.
I will rewatch both anime after some time. But now i dont have enough time for this and also i still want to enjoy the aftertaste a little bit.

P.P.S. Btw all the music from both anime is now in my playlist

So 13 episodes of Sakiko's abrasive, unexplained behavior gives us... her forming a band based around her doll hyper-fixation. And a last-second 'explanation' for all the conflict she's been tied to throughout the series. Honestly, I can't speak to Ave Mujica yet, but Sakiko's involvement in this series was maybe its weakest element.

Really enjoyed it otherwise.

What, that was straight up Babymetal tier. This is on another level compared to childish Mygo

Episode 13 by far the best episode compared to all the other boring ones. The whole season was a bunch of infighting and crying

Sakiko best character maybe, that girl is cooking
