Anime romcoms overall have been way different the past 5+ years, typically having less fan service and (imo) off-putting tropes. This pv uses the most outlandish tropes of the genre, and they’re doing that intentionally. They even have the girl running late with toast in her mouth. Nobody writes that nowadays unless they want the audience to be thinking of it as a trope. Since this isn’t a parody, it’s most likely setting up to subvert the genre.

The key visual doesn’t fit at all with what is shown in the pv or a romcom in general and matches more with the psychological genre. The hexagons on the sides are very telling too. Maybe he’s in a simulation without knowing, or there’s some kind of murder game, or who knows. But the discount chikorita on the stairs is probably this show’s kyubey or like the game mascot.

If it seems weird that an original anime coming out this year looks like it has the writing of a bad 00’s harem, then it should. They’re setting it up like that on purpose. Idk if it’ll be any good, but I would say don’t write this off just based on the pv.

He directed "My Girlfriend is Shobitch" which is a heavy harem ecchi series, and he also directed "Are You Lost?" which was a milder ecchi comedy series with yuri undertones.

How abt you include those series too, before you make outrageous statements saying this anime is going to turn into something similar to chaos child or happy sugar life.
