Really? Please explain your reasoning.

I am sure an accountant working for an anime studio makes more than minimum wage.

Try harder.

If you are an accountant for a studio you are not really working on the anime creation proccess tbh. Kind of like saying a janitor who cleans a college is part of the teaching careers at the campus.

They are still working IN the industry. An accountant working in an anime studios is essentially an industry job. For example, lawyers and accountants can work in either a public firm where they assist clients, or they can work in a company where they are essentially employees of said company. The term is usually industry or private accountant.

Janitors are custodians. A janitor in a school would merely be responsible for the cleaning and being the general caretaker of the building. An accountant working in an anime studio, on the other hand, deals with the finances of their studio. Depending on their responsibilities and their title, they could have some say on matters regarding the direction of their studio.

Well, if I was someone who knew how to draw well and is interested in animation, then I may be interested to work on anime, and I would probably choose to work at Kyoto Animation or Studio Bones since I hear that both studios pay their animators well, or maybe work as a freelancer, but I'm not very good at drawing

Knowing that most animators are overworked and underpaid there's no way I want to work there. My current job is better.

Uggh yes, I wanna be a mangaka so badly, drawing my stories and sharing them with others hehe. I know it's not easy but it's what I want to do for a living. I don't really care how much I get paid as long as I can live off it lol

They probably aren't, but OP specified "Working in the anime industry" in the post, so I assume it is whatever professions serving the industry.

Perhaps if the accountant is the CFO or a project finance manager they might have some say, that's pretty much at the top of the corporate hierarchy though. The average accountant isn't going to influence the operations of the company at all though, they predominantly just record what has happened in the past in the correct way.

Accounting is very broad, so that's why I stated it depends on the responsibilities and title. I am thinking CPA-equivalent accountants working in an anime studio can have a small impact on the direction of an organization. The CFO or anyone in the upper echelons of a company can consult them in regards to budgeting and other financial matters, which can have some influence on important decisions within the company.

I might as well just work in coal mines in some distant third world country. Would make about the same and work less.

Absolutely not, from what I hear, the conditions in the industry are atrocious (because its using the Japanese model of business)

@Conceptualhero
you seem a lot more educated on this that me so do correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't working as an accountant still be almost as bad as working as an animator in japan? yes, you probably get a higher wage but isn't japanese work culture by all accounts incredibly unhealthy and outdated? I did read that they are trying to make it better but these things take years to fix usually.

No, I just want to give anime producers and manga writers my ideas so they can come up with better anime/stories.

Well, I am not extremely knowledgeable on work culture in Japan. However, given that Japan's work culture is strict across the board, I would rather be working as an accountant than an animator since they are paid more. If I was a huge fan of anime, working in a studio filled with animators and talented artists wouldn't be so bad. Where else would I go if I am living in Japan? Even if I wasn't working in the anime industry, I would still be working my fingers to the bone in another company.

There are Western companies such as Crunchyroll, Yen press, Funimation, etc. that deal with anime products and services. Perhaps, I could try for those companies since Western work culture is not as bad as in Japan.

No. The anime industry is really shit for wages, how it treats people etc.
This post is brought to you by your local transfem gamer goblin. Will not tolerate bigotry and will fight against "anti-woke" sentiment to make the anime community a safer place.

Nope. Working in anime sounds awful, you don't get paid well at all. Especially when 90% of anime fans pirate their anime and manga.

I have ideas for a anime series. But I would never want to work in the anime industry. I have heard people say that if you love your job then its as if you are not really working. But I have to wonder how many people working in the anime industry in Japan are doing it because they love it or are they doing it because that is a easy way for them to somewhat earn a living?
